  1. Beautifully and miraculously done, even if the audience was so enthusiastic that I could not hear all of it. What is your native language? You sing in english very well and you piano is wonderful.
  2. say something nice...

Nobody can outdo Lennonist, whose post above is among the greatest I have ever read, here or elsewhere and Lennonist alone has had some of the greatest. I could easily be the oldest person on this board, or at least close to it, but it doesn't really matter. Everyone who posts here has a calendar, at least one in their head, that is marking off the dates until May when there will be more Regina to sink into our souls. In the meantime, there will be a new Jenny Owen Youngs, some new Natalie Dawn and something from Allison Weiss, so 2012 will be a good year, at least for our ears and our inner beings. Which is good. Happy everything, Lennonist, and everyone else.
  3. Regina is everywhere

watched 60 Minutes tonight and again that Prudential commercial, this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=162Qv2O2LK0, came on where the piano solo toward the end always hits me as a few notes off something I have heard Regina play. I think I finally realized what it is: Listen to Nickel Eye's Where the Cold Wind Blows and Regina's solo midway through it: I guess it is not a direct rip, but awfully close.....
  4. Ben Folds

His retrospective, "The Best Imitation of Myself" is great. The first disk of the deluxe edition are all songs you have heard, and includes the "Seeds" version (much better mix than the one first released) of "You Don't Know Me." It is the second and third disks (live stuff and early versions of other things) that really makes it great. But, there is also this little photo in the booklet that comes with it. And, it is almost worth the $19 all by itself. (Maybe not, but is a nice photo anyhow.)

  9. Demos

Thanks. All I had was the 2005 Jewish Heritage Festival version. quote: Originally posted by Kb93: I was rummaging around through the internet and found this http://www.megaupload.com/?d=C2F3FAKR its a recording of Chelsea Hotel #2 i've never heard before. Its album info said it is a demo. It sounds like a demo/radio recording. I'll leave it to the veterans to decide if its a true demo.
  10. Boardwalk Empire Song - My Man!

Definitely did not mean for it to be a competition. I suppose what I was saying is that if you listen to the original, Regina's is both faithful to it and slightly modernized. Barbra's was pop of the time (mid 1960s). Her voice is, of course, magnificent, but the recording was much less about either the song or Fanny Brice, but Barbra Streisand. That was what Funny Girl was, of course. Yeh, Billie Holiday's is in a class by itself. Regina's original homage to that version of the song is her "My Man." Regina's brings Fanny Brice alive, which, I imagine, was the point of the arrangement. I am against these kind of competitions and regret making it sound that way (the word "winner" had a lot to do with that, I suppose). Regina is is fine company here and held her own. When Rondstadt did two records of standards, it became clear how special she was in her ability to traverse both worlds, and it seems certain to me that Regina could do that, too (as, of course Norah Jones can as well). That's all. quote: Originally posted by Stepped On A Syringe: quote: Originally posted by Barth: quote: Originally posted by andreseng: Fanny Brice - My Man(original) Barbra Streisand - My Man and the winner? Our Regina. Hands down. love regina with all my heart, but she by no means is the winner of this competition. this is one of the most timeless songs in music history, IMO... billy holiday sings it with such pain and longing, even I (an 18 year old male) can feel connected to the subject matter. Barbra made it an iconic broadway hit and brought the song to the attention of many. Regina's version is a classy homage to the song, but no winner. !
  11. Boardwalk Empire Song - My Man!

Thanks. I missed that. I had started to watch BE, but it did not grab me. Now it has. I will catch up before the next season begins. Good job, HBO. And, Regina, you have entered even another world, so spectacularly, as always, that there is little more that can be said. This is so truly outstanding and yet another example of how well Regina represents the greatest artists of our time. quote: Originally posted by andreseng: quote: Originally posted by AveryPierce: Check andreseng's post a few posts up. quote: Originally posted by Barth: someone needs to rip this for us. yes, as Avery pointed out it is here in all it's glory...

  17. Soured on Regina Spektor?

I continue to have to discipline myself to listen to anyone else's music since what I really want to hear is Regina. P.S. Suckered again. Just notice who started this thread. Figures. (If you don't know what I am talking about, take a quick peak at prior posts under that name. Don't read them, because they will ruin your day.
  18. Jenny Owen Youngs

New album soon, she has given us something to listen to while we wait, with (and produced by) Greg Laswell: http://jennyowenyoungs.bandcam...rack/great-big-plans From twitter, it is clear that much of Reginapolis (it's a real place, I think) has already found, treasured and loved this little taste, but this post is to alert anyone who has not heard this. gh I gather this will not be part of the album but if this is what was left over, the album to come is going to be quite JOYful. I am up to about ten listens so far.

I just don't have the talent or the time, but I have seen all this stuff on youtube and want Reginamusic more than anything.

  24. DylanFest 2011

I am just stupefied by all of this great stuff. No shock, but Norah's version of Mississippi is just out and out wonderful and needs to be recorded (we used to say "put on vinyl") immediately. Same with Nicole Atkins' Durango. And Binki and Alia and, yes, the Lay Lady Lay. The whole thing is just great and really says something about the performers as well as Dylan. I will not sleep peacefully until Regina and Jack show up with McGuinn somewhere to do Tambourine Man a la The Byrds. (If David Crosby wants to join in, that would be good, too. Norah, of course, too. Nelly McKay anyone?)
