  5. Recommend a book here...

Just finished Arrowsmith - Sinclair Lewis Love medical novels. Never even knew it was a medical novel. It's gorgeous, like, poignant, the prose is top notch, and happy ending to boot. Brilliant and fun. Now re-reading The Fountainhead - Ayn Rand I always thought it was better than Atlas Shrugged. It's so sick, it's so sarcastic, it so points out the contemptuous relationships that shallow people have with each other, and how they always try and feign some kind of respect for each other. And I haven't read it in 15 years, and since then have gotten heavily into NYC construction, and met a lot of architects on 30 million dollar projects. It's still relevant today, even more in a way. As Bob Grant used to say, another right-wing boob, 'It's sick out there, and getting sicker.'

  11. Why are Republicans evil?

there's actually no such thing as evil. the term is only relevant in this reality, as we judge each other. republicans are just a little more stupid than democrats, but not much. by this i mean politicians themselves. as far as us plebians who are in either party, there's plenty of people who are republicans who aren't stupid. there are just more stupid republicans than democrats. newt gingrich, however, is purely evil. even in the outskirts of the universe, he's well known for really foul deeds. but so is andrew cuomo. it's not an easy contest to be a champion of evil in american politics.

  16. The Engines of Armageddon

yo, that is fucked up cool shit. your sons play what i've always called 'death metal', the basic requirements always seemed to be extremely low range almost indecipherable vocals, and double bass drums. i like fuck the chip! you can understand the vocals! i nearly listened to thirty seconds of it. never did death metal, not gonna do death metal. i'm too much a slave to melody. but they got a nitch: you can understand the vocals. i hope they make big money, and take care of you in your golden years like you took care of them.
  17. Dating & Money

my oldest brother calls me chump sometimes. but he's real. musiclover can't possibly love any music. he's a spy. he's even a bigger asshole than my oldest brother, who actually has the capacity to love music, as he's sang it in public enough. as gracefully as me? it's a family battle. i think i win.

  20. Laughing With!

Yeah, I just assume that the girl meant that if you actually refer to god at all, that leaves their beliefs questioned. I know, it's silly. Anyone can gather that Regina isn't judging anyone, quite the contrary. She liked Machine, and Two Birds. Everyone has their sensitivities, and it was just weird that Far struck her that way, to me. I haven't listened to it much lately, but did on the weekend. It's such a piece of work. Sistine Chapel of sound.

  23. Laughing With!

I haven't followed this thread lately, of course, but I've been wanting to note something here, and this is the thread to do it. I was at The Tribes, on the Lower East Side in Manhattan, a few times, a few weeks ago, for art events. It's a notable underground art haven, one of those non-profit, anything goes, all kinds of endless cool art places. So met some interesting people. So, of course, I'm always telling everyone that I'm a big fat giant Regina Spektor fan, heard of her? heard of her? huh huh have ya have ya? So this girl, a really nice cool interesting young 'alternative' girl, said something like this: Yeah, I dug a lot of her stuff, but don't like the new album much. I'm like, whoa, wait, whatdya mean, WHAT EXACTLY DO YOU MEAN BY THAT? Anyway, we talked about it, she liked some of the songs. But she said this: (paraphrasing) Well she kind of fucked the athiests. I'm like what? What songs? She goes well, duh. I'm like, oh, Laughing With. Okay, I can appreciate that. She goes, I have no idea why that was the single. I said, well, me neither actually. Perhaps people are making the decisions other than her. She goes, she should make her own decisions. Hmmm. Anyway, so it made me think ever since, I guess the song does leave all the athiests in the world a little disenfranchised? Of course, this is nit picking though. I mean, there are athiests, and people of countless faiths, and people can appreciate a damn SONG can't they? I'm not an athiest, but I appreciate athiest themed art. I think the girl was a bit of a purest. She said, I hate when anyone loses their weirdness, which I guess she thinks Regina has, with Far. Okay, point taken, but not really. Far certainly has it's weird moments. Okay, nothing quite like Poor Little Rich Boy, but still, ya gotta evolve. Anyway, news from the random masses peanut gallery reported to ya by old RaelNYC. Pay up, ya'll, it's two ninety nine a story.
  24. Stephen King says waterboard Jenna Bush

What on Earth are you doing here? I haven't had arguments with vehement right wingers in ages. It's so utterly redundant. How trite the topics are you broach. How mealy mouthed and disingenuous you are. How you must cower in the evening in constant fear of the big socialist bogieman coming to take your freedom and money away. How you must laud god-awful evangelical Christians. Ever hear of Pastor John Hagee? Is that what you like, a fat mouthed bigoted wicked hob? You actually feel that that carpet-chewing paranoid sociopath George W. Bush did anything for 8 years but complete damage to the entire human race? Why don't you go hang out at a Ted Nugent forum? You actually listen to Regina Spektor? I mean, like, regularly? How odd.
  25. Gaga and Spektor

Apples and Oranges to me. A genius and a flavor of the day.
