  2. San Diego Show

Well, I was in the San-Diego show myself last night. The last time I enjoyed a concert so much was in 1995 (Neil Young with Pearl Jam as his band) does any body have videos of yesterday? I would definitely want to hear "The Wallet" again. Never heard of it before yesterday. What a pleasant discovery for a live performance

  6. Us: What Does It Mean?

Here's a hint. US is a song from "soviet kitsch". When russia first became the soviet union after the Communist revolution (1917), many of the main cities names where changed and were named after the new political leaders. Once the soviet union fell apart in 1991, the cities names were changed again, so they will not include in them the names of these leaders. At that time a lot of statues of does leaders were broken down by the people. Same people who were cheering them during the Communist period. I think a lot of the symbols you don't understand in the song you should research in the context of the soviet union/russian culture and history. Maybe the song is about peoples need to be remembered and how it's a pointless effort. In that matter I do think regina took her experience from her birth country and showed that it's really the same in the U.S. (The way people remember their leaders, the relationship between the leaders and the people) or any were else in the world.

  12. I think that someone had Hanna Szenes mixed up with another jewish writer of that time: yanush korczak. I grow up in Israel, so, I heard "Eli, Eli" too many times in a memorial/holocaust/ceremonial context, which is a pity, since the poem was written when Hanna was still safe in Israel, and has a much broader/timeless meaning. For me, regina's performance of the song took it away from the shallow place "nationalization" has put it to, and back to it's original wider meaning for people in general. , quote: Originally posted by brendan o'brien: I had someone tell me something quite different.
