  1. So I'm in love with Ксения...

Very cool I was wondering about you two at Northwestern... what to do about the distance though? Eastern Europe and the middle of North America are a little "far", you might say.
  2. The Crimea feat. Regina

There's a version of their White Russian Galaxy single that has a live recording with Regina doing the intro. It takes a little work to find one, but it's certainly not the hardest recording of Regina to track down... I managed to get one on Amazon Marketplace maybe a year ago... you just have to know what to look for and keep an eye open.
  3. Urgent: Flower Arrangement for Dan

Thanks very much for the offer, but we've got it covered. I should have mentioned that in the main post. I see the results are coming in quite quickly, and I really want to say how much I appreciate everyone's rapid attention. We were a little worried that there wouldn't be enough time to get a representative sample of responses, but the poll is looking very good already. So thanks to everyone who's silently voted, your promptness has not gone unnoticed.
  4. Urgent: Flower Arrangement for Dan

Fellow Brumstixers, As I’m sure you are aware, Dan Cho passed away one week ago today. As cellist in Regina’s latest band, Dan’s gifted musicianship was an invaluable part of all of our lives, and his loss is among the greatest this community has ever encountered. In order to express our condolences to the family and friends of Dan, Jamie and I have elected to send a floral arrangement on behalf of the entire Brumstix community. As card space is very limited, no individual names will be listed, but we may be open to the possibility of adding a line of poetry or a brief song lyric to the card. We have looked over the variety of arrangements available and have narrowed it down to two, about which we would like the community to make the final decision. Pictures of the arrangements are included at the bottom of this post. Please use this poll to vote as soon as possible, as the flowers must be sent tomorrow. Please also use this thread to let us know if you have any suggestions for what to put on the card, or any objections about sending flowers from the community. Thank you all very much for your input, and for being a part of this wonderful community. Celebration of Life Ocean Breeze
  5. 11:11 Hardcover CD for SALE June 29th, 2010

quote: Originally posted by dentistgirl: ^yes, that would be nice. Despite being completely skint at the moment, I told myself if it was still under $500, I'd try and bid. I did try, but it was so anticlimactic. It went over 5 ($518), but I was crying too much to care. Losing Dan is a lot worse than losing an auction.... It's ok, you can look at / borrow mine whenever you want And any spare money you can wrangle up would probably be best put toward Jenny or Chelsea's new album-funding efforts, anyway.
  6. RIP Dan Cho

If anyone finds an address or funeral home to which flowers and other such gifts can be sent, please post it here. I'd really like to send some from brumstix, as he's been a big part of our little world for a long time now. edit: I've sent an e-mail to Jack to see about getting an address, but please still let me know if you hear anything in the meantime, as I can't imagine he'll be spending a lot of his time answering e-mails at the moment.
  7. Jenny's got a new song

Originally I thought it would be perfect for Jenny to cover "Big Eater" by The Bad Plus, but lately I've been thinking (since she likes drawing dinosaurs so much) that maybe "Reginasaurus" should be the cover
  8. 11:11 Hardcover CD for SALE June 29th, 2010

I'm afraid I set a bad precedent buying that last one for $750. If we want to drive the price back down, we need let a few of these super-highly priced auctions go without winners. Unfortunately I doubt that will happen, as there are definitely people who wanted it as badly as I did and easily have as much or more money. One way to tell if it's authentic or not (though it seems this one probably is now that real pictures have been posted) is too look for the "lens flair" effect on the apex of the burned Polaroid on the front. It's basically a little mistake of the post-processing that goes off evenly into the "burned away" area of the picture, but you can't really see that without a high-resolution close-up of the physical cover. There's also a slight discoloration on the lower right half of the polaroid on the inside cover, but that could just be on my copy, so I don't know if that's a good indicator or not.
  9. Jenny's got a new song

I'm glad I found out about this. I chipped in at the $300 level... Now to pick a good song for her to cover
  10. Festival Capital, Mexico City, Mexico on 10/16/2010

Hey srg, are you thinking of going to this? I'm considering it, since it would be a good excuse to visit some of my friends in SoCal for a while and then just drive down for the show.

Sorry you've had to hold on to it for me for so long... No problem, I've got your record stored with the one remaining unclaimed prize, safe and sound.

Split-Track mp3s are ready: Anything else we need, or is that enough coverage of this show?

"while laughing up a storm, until it got so warm, until it got so warm that none of us could sleep." It's hard to say what's "Normal" with Dance Anthem, as it has been a bit amorphous lately, starting with the Denver show I think. The arrangement from Bonnaroo is basically the same arrangement she used at Northwestern, except with less effects on her voice at the beginning. Also, I've added the download link for the video to RespektOnline and I'll put up the individual tracks later tonight.

I have not watched it all yet---the beginning and a few bits and pieces elsewhere, but it is really the best video we have of a whole Regina concert; at least since Bonnaroo 2007 and the quality of this one is better than that. Just as did tallchick, I forgot about the "on the hour" cutoff, and there are a couple of moments when the video is not as perfect as it other times, but that is the internet of today and, well, the price was perfect; no? Thanks again. After finally watching it, I'm afraid the quality drop in the middle might be my fault. When I was confident that the streams were both recording reliably, I decided to stop babysitting them and go watch on my living room TV. Unfortunately, it seems that opening another stream may have caused the original to drop in quality as a result of being starved for bandwidth. I didn't notice any quality fluctuation or other problems on the stream I was watching on the TV, so for some reason it only lowered the quality on the stream I was recording My best guess is that since that one was already running when the other one started, their software noticed a decrease in the buffer health and therefore dropped the bitrate to keep the buffer full. I wish it would have done that on the stream I was watching instead, but oh well, at least it's recorded and watchable.
  16. Bonnaroo 2010

The video is ready, you can download it here: I haven't watched it yet (I'm at work), but hopefully it's decent.
  17. Bonnaroo 2010

Hi everyone. Sorry it's taking so long, but I thought I'd give you an update on the video. I've finally gotten the stream into a usable form and I'm currently giving it a 2-pass encode. I can't wait up for that to finish, but I'll start it uploading before I leave for work in the morning and then I should be able to post a link by mid-day NYC time. Thanks for your patience, and let me just say that if I hate two things in this world, it's encrypted streams and the FLV format. The 2007 stream was WMV and that was much easier to massage into usable data, despite also being encrypted.

  19. Bonnaroo 2010

Here's the (uncut) audio from the show: I'll chop it up into songs and put it on RSO after I have the video re-encoded.
  20. Bonnaroo 2010

Yea, good thing we have the audio stream too... It would suck if we couldn't hear the end and were forever left to wonder if she played some great new song or something.
  21. Bonnaroo 2010

Good news, I'm not having any trouble recording the video feed

This is obviously susceptible to false positives, but I can just delete the stuff I don't want after I've gotten the stuff I do. It basically always works as long as I'm there to babysit it, but my attempts at automation have been hit or miss. It's worked for many things, like the Barnes & Noble show and her series of online-radio appearances from the Far release, but it fell on its face a few times too, like when she played the white house... Unfortunately I haven't gotten around to writing any sort of user interface yet, and even if I do, I (legally) have to give the company I work for first dibs on the software before I can distribute it myself. It does seem like something people might want, though, so I may eventually polish it up and give it a try.

I tried it once before, but the flv file didn't play well after. thanks! I can probably capture it (and I'll certainly try), but the program is one of my own so I can't help much on that front.

Those are basically the changes, and there were several songs on Far that got the same treatment, like Folding Chair. The difference with One More Time With Feeling is that it was a powerful song which everyone loved from day one, exactly as it was. It's probably up there with Loveology in terms of how much people liked the song... and not only the music, but the whole attitude and perspective of the song. So, when it was announced to be on Far, people got very excited, but when the changes were heard, people were sort of shocked and disappointed. When something you love change in a way you're not expecting, when the change is more than just superficial and drastically alters the understood meaning, it can be very jarring.
