  1. What are you Eeting right now?

Having enjoyed the fruits of your crockpot before, that surely sounds delicious, but I have to say that a crockpot isn't exactly much of a step up on the lazines scale
  2. Northwestern University's Dillo Day- May 29, 2010

According to Jack, he won't be at the show, but getting in won't be an issue.

Cross-Posting my collection from the Give-Away thread since Jamie linked me here:

Jack told us that Call Them Brothers will be on his upcoming Only Son album as a duet with Regina

You've moved on from writing papers which have been written a thousand times and are therefore extremely easy to research, acquire knowledge, and transfer that knowledge into a paper to papers that are only written by a handful of dental students each year, where the knowledge is not so abundant and the expression of that knowledge considerably more difficult. At least that's my guess. At least you're eventually going to be finished with school. I've been wanting a master's degree in linguistics since 2008, but since I decided to move back east and take classes at night, that date keeps getting pushed farther and farther out, especially because the 4 classes I need are not being offered at all for the next 2 semesters.
  7. While I was organizing all the winners' items (I'll begin shipping tomorrow), I figured I might as well take a picture of my collection while I had it out. Is there a thread specifically for this kind of thing?
  8. I still have not heard from: Crispy Crispy Benjamin Franklin Green Mind LittleVoice solitude_in_dark_places If you are on this list, please e-mail me as soon as possible.

  11. Northwestern University's Dillo Day- May 29, 2010

Alright, so who has the most experience making fake IDs?
  12. More good news everyone, as there is yet another item in the Give Away! While visiting my parents' house, I took the opportunity to rummage through some of the boxes of my stuff they have in their attic, and I found a beautiful signed 8x10 glossy. For those interested, this was autographed after the October 2006 LA show at the Avalon. I had it in a frame for a while, but it's spent the past two years in a protective metal case. I'll be adding this to the give-away as another item like the sketchbook and the survival guide, so anyone who enters for anything will be eligible to win it. Here's a photo I just took of it:

So confusing. Haha. The Laughing With/Blue Lips "Single" is actually labeled as an EP and does include The Call and The Noise.
  14. I'm very glad to see so many entries already! The Soviet Kitsch Vinyl is currently leading in registrations, but it's close. It's pretty interesting to see how the entries are grouped up around certain items. When this is over I'll post some statistics (anonymous, of course) about the entries. I'd share them now, but I don't want to skew things

1080P streaming videos are done, they've replaced the ones that were previously embedded, so you should just be able to select 1080p now when you play them on the page. Alternatively, you can watch the playlist on youtube here. quote: Originally posted by jpscool4u: How come the 1080p one's on RSO are .wmv if you did an MP4 encode? I always thought H.264 and x264 were way better codecs than WMV, sort of like the "best bang for the buck" (best quality for the bitrate) The VC-1 Advanced codec is my personal favorite. As a developer, I find this codec more predicable and easier to work with and get the results I want. A lot of people seem to not like it simply because Microsoft made it. I do not take that position. H.264 is a good codec, but I don't like working with it. It crashes on me from time to time and is a pain to debug. It may be possible to get a better quality:bitrate ratio with it in some circumstances, but the VC-1 Advanced WMV codec is much easier to use and results in extreme high quality, in my opinion, even if the files are slightly larger. Ultimately the file size and quality differences are basically negligible and it's a matter of personal preference. Now, as for why the download links are WMV and the YouTube videos are H.264... The WMV files were rendered using multi-pass dynamic unconstrained VBR encoding with all the bells and whistles like Full True Chroma and Adaptive Motion Matching to make the best quality files possible, whereas the H.264 files were done in a single-pass with a constant bitrate so that they would be done quickly and YouTube would handle the files better.

1080p download links have been added. I also did a 1080p MP4 encode to replace the 720p videos on Youtube and hopefully fix the sync issues there. I'll post again when the new youtube videos are ready.
  17. I'm happy to report that there are now even more things to give away! An anonymous donor has offered to contribute an autographed sketchbook and a copy of the Survival Guide to Soviet Kitsch, to be given to two random entrants in the give-away. You do not need to register specifically for these items, registering for any item on the list automatically registers you for the sketchbook and survival guide as well.
  18. quote: Originally posted by i like wonder bread: so, the marry ann meets the gravediggers... is that the same recordings as the american albums? or are they in any way different?.. The recordings are all identical to the songs on the albums, and it comes with a DVD of the Survival Guide to Soviet Kitsch.
  19. quote: Originally posted by sweetness in my lungs: (and ok I might be slow, but "vinyl" does mean actual vinyl and is not a nickname for anything? sometimes I miss out on slang and stuff... ) Yes, vinyl means vinyl, as in a record to be played on a turntable. quote: Originally posted by Be like the water, people.: Are we allowed to register for more than one thing? i figured not, but i just thought i'd check.. a SK vinyl would be pretty beast as well.... If you have already registered and you register for something else, it simply changes your registration to that item. quote: Originally posted by SmallTownMoon: I entered...I kind of hope I don't get it though, because what are my parents going to think if a regina EP shows up on our doorstep? either that I took their credit card or possibly that I'm a criminal.....if I do win I think I'll start a thread taking suggestions on how to properly explain this. good luck to everyone! EDIT: Eshbach, I just noticed your location, I live pretty close to you. I suggest you show them the registration page and this thread, that should pretty much cover it. I actually moved to downtown Harrisburg a couple months ago, so I'm not so much "southeast" anymore, but still, nice to know there's another local fan
  20. 11:11 Original Print Hard Copy

I've put the page up, you can register here: http://www.respektonline.net/GiveAway And for further discussion, I've made a thread about the page, here: http://reginaspektor.infopop.c...=843104614#843104614 quote: Originally posted by sweetness in my lungs: I don't really get it all though? If someone sign up for 11:11 and gets picked, what will happen then? Maybe you should just include the things you have numerous copies of? I'm including everything I have multiple copies of and everything that can be found easily. The rarest of singles won't be on the list (since I only have one and can't find a place to get another) and 11:11 won't be on there either. Hopefully everything else will be available.
  21. In order to share the happiness of finally aquiring an 11:11 hard-copy, I've decided to give away one copy of (almost) every other CD/Vinyl/Single Regina has ever released to someone who doesn't have it. In order to do this as fairly as possible, I've set up a web page where you can enter your Brumstix user name and pick the item which you would like to receive. In one week, on April 17th, I will randomly select one person to receive each of the items listed on the site. To register to receive a free Regina recording you don't already have, click here. The original discussion of this idea (and some more specifics) can be found in this thread: http://reginaspektor.infopop.c...7688/m/277109414/p/3 Good Luck everyone Update - The Results Are In! I want to give people time to enter, but I don't want to have it open forever, or for long enough that people forget about it after entering.

Thanks again for the positive feeback folks, it's great to know you all like it. I've changed the banner at the top to a new one I just made. I think it looks a bit less like an 8th grade science-fair poster board now. Let me know what you think. Also, 1080p is coming soon .

Edit, New Idea: Since I'm in quite a good mood after finally getting a copy of 11:11, I've just had an idea for a way to share my happiness with the rest of the community. Here is my idea, if everyone (or a strong majority of everyone) is ok with this, I'll carry it out: I propose to create a web page (and a thread linking to it) which lists all of the commonly available Regina Spektor CDs, vinyl albums, and singles. Brumstix members will then be eligible to register to receive a free copy of 1 item which they do not have (honor system). After one week (or some other suitable amount of time decided by the community) of open registration, 1 "winner" will be randomly selected to receive the item they've registered for, and I will contact them on brumstix to arrange for the delivery. If it is something I already have multiple copies of, I will simply send them one of those. Otherwise, I will purchase the item from a source as close to Regina as possible (official site, CDBaby, and independent record stores given priority over places like Amazon or BestBuy) and have the new item shipped directly to them. I mean this simply as a way of sharing the joy which getting this CD has given me, but if it is in some way offensive to a considerable part of the community, I'll refrain and look for another way. On the other hand, if the system is popular enough, I would consider holding the event annually or something. Sound good?
