  1. Today I was grocery shopping at Whole Foods and my daughter said, "Hey! Listen! It's Regina!!!" And it was. Regina singing Better. Anyone else hear Reg around town lately?
  2. Regina revisits herself?

I have read on here (and noticed myself) that the beginning of Man of 1000 Faces sounds just like the opening bars of Begin to Hope. Then today I was listening to the beautiful, clean recording (courtesy DanLynch) of Lesson in How Fleeing Preservation Is, and my daughter said, "Doesn't this sound just like Making Records?" We popped that into the cd player, and sure enough... Anyone noticed this? Or other examples? By the way, I am not complaining. I LOVE all these songs and think similarities in some melodies just indicates a coherent artistic vision.

And what do we think of Ingrid Michaelson? ingrid's myspace People keep telling me she reminds them of Regina. I don't get it.

  19. Regina Spektor will blow your English professor's mind

Ah, back in the day when some kid from Brown could get access to Regina for an interview. That might be the most I have ever heard her say about her songwriting process. Interesting. Thanks for posting.

OK, one more, from THE COURT JESTER with Danny Kaye (imagine words spoken very fast): Hawkins: I've got it! I've got it! The pellet with the poison's in the vessel with the pestle; the chalice from the palace has the brew that is true! Right? Griselda: Right. But there's been a change: they broke the chalice from the palace! Hawkins: They *broke* the chalice from the palace? Griselda: And replaced it with a flagon. Hawkins: A flagon...? Griselda: With the figure of a dragon. Hawkins: Flagon with a dragon. Griselda: Right. Hawkins: But did you put the pellet with the poison in the vessel with the pestle? Griselda: No! The pellet with the poison's in the flagon with the dragon! The vessel with the pestle has the brew that is true! Hawkins: The pellet with the poison's in the flagon with the dragon; the vessel with the pestle has the brew that is true. Griselda: Just remember that.

From HOW TO STEAL A MILLION: Simon Dermott: Why must it be this particular work of art? Nicole Bonnet: You don't think I'd steal something that didn't belong to me, do you? Simon Dermott: Excuse me, I spoke without thinking.

"This dress bugs me." (said in a Hungarian accent by Eva, as she stuffs a dress she's been given into the trash in Jim Jarmusch's STRANGER THAN PARADISE) "My lips hurt real bad!" NAPOLEAN DYNAMITE From THE ODD COUPLE: Oscar: Now kindly remove that spaghetti from my poker table. [Felix laughs] Oscar: The hell's so funny? Felix: It's not spaghetti, it's linguini. [Oscar picks up the linguini and hurls it against the kitchen wall] Oscar Madison: Now it's garbage. One more from ODD COUPLE: Murray: A whole bottle of pills! My God, get an ambulance! Oscar: Wait a minute, will ya? We don't even know what kind! Murray: What difference does it make? He took a whole bottle! Oscar: Well, maybe they were vitamins! He could be the healthiest one in the room!
  23. What are you Eeting right now?

Ben and Jerry's coffee heath bar crunch ice cream. Which means I will be up till 3 am ... but it's worth it. @ThePoet'sLove, marmite on toast? Elaborate? (I have always wondered about marmite. What is it like--meat-flavored jello?) For some reason (English connection?) I am reminded of that amazing picture that Little Voice posted, of a fish pie, in which all the fish heads and tails were sticking out. Remarkable. Starry Gazey Pie (Scroll down some---you'll know it when you see it.)

  25. JUST SPOTTED THIS ON EBAY .....

She should be happy you like ebay since you can get bargains there. My kids love rummage sales, and I feel lucky they do. I think it's fun to discover a treasure at a rummage sale, and I love the idea of recycling instead of getting new stuff. And of course, I like saving $. Anyway, good luck with the decal.
