  2. Record Store Day 2016 + Regina!

I'm assuming it's this recording of Baby Jesus, which sounds very much like a take from the same session that produced the rest of the BTH bonus tracks (like Uh-Merica and Baobabs). Counting Hero, Bartender, Uh-Merica, Baobabs, Another Town, Düsseldorf, Music Box, and Baby Jesus, that leaves two mystery songs left.
  3. The New Record

From Jack's Facebook, posted today: "Last night Regina and I performed at the Littlest Tumor Foundation benefit with Judd Apatow, Zach Galafianakis and John Mulaney at Largo. It was a super fun show (they were all hilarious). Regina played a bunch of great new songs and we did a duet of "Space Oddity" in tribute to David Bowie."
  4. The New Record

"Soon(ish)" is painfully vague but still reassuring!
  5. In search of the Holy Grail...

It seems like ages ago that the song file was floating around on here. I'm sure people could dig it up on old hard-drives. But unfortunately I don't have it. The cover was very 11:11-ish (vocal-wise), since it is of that era, and featured a rock style band accompaniment that you would imagine fitting for the song.
  6. In search of the Holy Grail...

It's a cover of "I Put a Spell On You."
  7. regina is going to be a mommy!

From her official Facebook page: "Hi there friends! I was so happy to be nominated for my first Grammy! I would have definitely gone to LA for all the fun, in a party dress and with bells on, if I wasn't so super pregnant at the moment. (!!!!!!!!!!). Jack and I are very excited to be expecting a brand new human together!!! I've been spending most of my time writing songs, dreaming up the new record, cooking soup, eating soup, and being very grateful for the people in my life- family, friends, and you… So I'm glad to share the news, and I wish everyone who is going to the Grammys an amazing night! Thank you to the Grammy peeps for nominating "You've Got Time!" I'll see you from the couch regi"
  8. "Stupid Things" by Sarah Dooley

A friend of mine, who I'm sure a few of you are familiar with, has recently released her debut album "Stupid Things." Regina's music is one of her principle inspirations, and it is clearly seen through her lyrics and musical style. I believe, although I haven't asked her, that there are even quite a few allusions and references to regina's songs in a few of her own. Her album focuses mostly on childhood, adolescence, and the transition into adulthood. My favorite tracks are "Shadows," "Stupid Things," and "Peonies." You can watch the music video for "Peonies"here: Listen to her interview on NPR's "Morning Edition" here: Buy her album on iTunes here: Sarah, a fellow native of Indiana and alumna of Barnard College of Columbia University (in the City of New York) studied playwriting in college and was involved heavily in theater and drama. Her comedy web-series "And Sarah" has gained some internet fame, as well. She's quite funny and goofy, qualities that are exposed through her music, as well. Watch her web series here: She's really quite entertaining, and her album has a few gems on it that I'm sure many of you will enjoy. If any of you out there like the movie The Goonies (not sure how one couldn't like this movie), this album is worth a listen. While Sarah is an acquaintance of mine and I support her artistic endeavors fully, I also truly think it is fantastic that regina's music has influenced and inspired a new generation of musicians and songwriters. In my mind, I still see regina as the underdog, the underground musician, the hidden secret. It still surprises me when I meet people these days who actually are familiar with her music, because I have not yet processed her fame and widespread recognition. Just as regina used to cite her own influences, Joni Mitchell, Ani DiFranco, The Beatles, now regina has become one of those citations, herself. How the time flies! And no, Sarah didn't pay me to post this!
  9. recordings gone?

Man, that sin-é concert was really something!
  10. "Stupid Things" by Sarah Dooley

Yeah she cites her all the time, almost every interview she's done, except for the short NPR one. There's another interview out there--I forget which one-- where she actually admits that some of her older songs imitate regina too much. I know regina has mentioned that herself with some of her work on "11:11" that was, one could say, overly-influenced. Sarah mentioned that there is one of her songs that she actually hates to perform because it exemplifies a period in her life where she would blatantly copy regina's style, before she had developed her own personal style. But there are some nice references to regina's music that I appreciate. For example, in "Willow Tree," Sarah sings: Peter Pan is all grown-up, he's a dentist in downtown Chicago. And the Tooth Fairy OD'ed on noxious fumes. The mockingbird is out of material. And my shadow sleeps in a separate room. *** I went to the store to find some peace of mind, but all I could find was milk. Not only are these lines referencing well-known popular references, but they also mimic regina's style--and perhaps even allude to some of her songs--like "Mockingbird" (obvious references) and "The Devil Come to Bethlehem" (Joseph and Mary are so bad...He practices dentistry without a license, But its alright cause mary read the books and she's got his back).
  11. Why is the song "Fidelity" called "Fidelity"?

^ Yup! She mentions in the interview that while watching the movie, she was inspired to quickly put the song together. There's also a great live performance where she says that she imagines Jack Black dancing to the springy piano chords that introduce the song--a very silly mental image
  12. Interviews & appearances

Vladimir Vysotsky died at age 42… open your books!

  15. Someone wrote a song about Regina!

I've always loved songs by LEVY (James Levy) written about regina, like: "Rotten Love" I think about Regina And what she's done for me I think about Regina She's so sweet I said tonight is the party Would you like to come But she said no I can't James And he smelled of He smelled of rotten love "On the Dancefloor" I didn't know, you were so old You look so young to me On the dance floor, jeans underneath a flower skirt to your knees In our conversation, you asked me, "Son, you're crazy enough for me. She said, "I will take you home if you want to." But I got scared I didn't say yes, she went home with another boy instead. and, although I don't know for sure if it's about regina, I can't help but get the idea that it is.. "Rector Street" Four months since I saw you From the first time, I knew. I need to find a way, I need to get away to you tonight. And please don't laugh at me, but I have a thing or two to say to you, but god, it is so cruel. For years I've dreamed of you Don't sing, it makes me cry. I won't let someone like you pass me by. I need to find a way, I need to get away to you tonight And please don't laugh at me, but I have a thing or two to say to you, but god, it is so cruel. For years I've dreamed of you Tonight I watch you sleep alone downtown on rector street...

  20. Brümstix Project Organisation Thread

well I was in Washington Square Park this weekend, so I decided to give it a shot! I couldn't find a good way to write the lyrics on the balloon and get the park in the picture so that it's recognizable, so I just put the lyrics atop the photo. I hope this isn't cheating!!
