  1. Hello all

Hi! It's great to meet you, welcome to the Stix. I'm sure ou will enjoy it here as this forum has a very friendly and welcoming environment.
  2. 3 word story

    as birthday parties
  3. 3 word story

    Came a dragon
  4. In about two weeks I will be traveling to Israel on one of those 'birthright trips'. I should be really excited about it seeing as Israel is such an interesting place, but to be honest, I'm not. From what I've read, it seems a bit like a creepy indoctrination program to make people religious/orthodox (like Jesus Camp, only it's for Jewish people) because honestly, if someone were going to offer you a free trip then they MUST have a certain ulterior motive. So, my two questions are directed to fellow stixers who have gone on one of these trips: Is the birthright trip worth it? And how heavy is the indoctrination?
  5. Sorry to double post, but I have recently returned from my trip and I have to say it was an incredible experience. I saw lots of really cool places, met some terrific people who I can honestly call my friends, and I was not brainwashed into becoming some sort of religious fanatic. The trip itself was pretty secular thankfully, and the people in my group were all open-minded. There was some(quite creepy) ultra-nationalism present in the trip, though it only really came into play when the inspectors from Birthright international were there (weird) and many people in the group(including one of our guides) did not necessarily agree with it. If anyone here has the opportunity to go on a Birthright trip do not waste it, but do make sure that your trip is as secular and left-wing as possible.
  6. McCarren Pool Set List

Wow, she played an incredible set! I wish I could have been there (she played DANCE ANTHEM!!)
  7. I've been brainstorming a few ideas for this, and I really like rawin's court case idea. So I was thinking that the story could revolve around Carl, an ordinary middle-aged man who works as a lawyer and finds himself unsatisfied with his perceivably boring life. He also has a series of strange dreams and visions. His life begins to change when he finds himself defending Daniel Cowman, a psychotic murderer who is accused of killing his parents and his 31 siblings. Part of the story could be told through flashbacks, as Carl and Daniel's stories are intertwined.
  8. I'm leaving next sunday (yay!) Another question guys, I'm spending one free saturday in Jerusalem, is there anything to do on saturdays there?(seeing as most things are closed, etc)
  9. Right this second.

1)A Velvet Underground song, but I can't decide which 2)Coca Cola, or Chai Latte tea 3)My childhood friend 4)Pasta with shrimp! 5)Rushmore 6)Finish my last year of highschool/IB and get accepted into a prestigious film school/university abroad (in the US or the UK)
  10. I really enjoyed the Dark Knight.

OMG! I just came back from seeing it and it's beyond amazing, even better then Batman Begins. Heath Ledger stole the show as the Joker in what was an Oscar-worthy performance beating out Jack Nicholson's original Joker by a MASSIVE stretch. The Dark Knight is now among my favourite films of all time!!
  11. Are you a filmmaker/studying film, rawin? That's so cool! I'm planing on studying film once I get to university The Daniel Cowman idea is awesome, considering the great potential it has for a story beyond the song and all the characters that are introduced.
  12. What are you listening to right now?

    Animal Collective- Grass
  13. My aunt lives in a small city called Ashdod, it's about 40 minutes away from Tel Aviv.
  14. New music we should all hear

I LOVE The Reduction Agents!! I haven't seen Eagle Vs Shark though (I saw the trailer on youtube but the actual film was never released here in Mexico) On another note, Noah and the Whale are a great band from the UK who play folky acoustic indiepop and are worth checking out. One of their members, Laura Marling, collaborated with the Mystery Jets in their single Young Love. Here is their music video for the song Five Years Time:
  15. say something nice...

I like andreseng because he is really helpful, especially towards new members of the stix.
  16. Thanks Nat! Another question, since you've been to Israel before. I'm staying with my aunt there for an additional week, do you know of any cool interesting places that I could go to during that time?
  17. Aquarius!!! (can't believe I forgot it earlier)
  18. Where can i find these Regina songs?

Limewire is quite good for finding rare Reg tracks. I found Aquarius and Rockland County there so it might be useful to check there
  19. quote: Originally posted by Dominic: you lucky thing! i love the fact that he wears glasses and skateboards i guess your just never seen that in a mainstream rapper! I think Lupe seems like a really cool guy: he is also straight edge (doesn't drink, smoke, etc) and loves comic books.
  20. I'm thinking it would actually be quite cool if we could make this into a collective project here at the Stix with everybody contributing ideas and such, and maybe send it to Reg when the script/libretto/whatever is finished and see what she thinks. It would be a really cool way of thanking her for making such amazing music. So, I was thinking how certain songs can be connected. Maybe the man from GOCF and Carl Projektorinsky could be the same person: an ordinary man who dreams of something beyond his mundane life. Mary Ann could easily be a character as well.
  21. With the popularity of Mamma Mia and such, I wouldn't be surprised if this gets made in a few years. I mean with all the amazing characters and worlds Regina has created through her music, a very cool story connecting various songs could be created. What do you guys think?
  22. The White Elephants

What type of music do they play?
  23. A Tribe Called Quest(even though they're not together anymore), that would be an amazing collaboration.
  24. the "worst" song

I'd say The Call. While it's a nice song and everything, it's waay too Disney for my taste. BTW I quite like That Time, its one of those fun quirky little songs that everyone can sing along to. The twist at the end of it is great as well.
