  1. New 3 Word Story

  2. Jessica {WWSFTCS}

    Yes, but Regina has also said that she doesn't like to say her own interpretations of her songs because she feels like it would put them in a box. So, technically, we're all right about what the song means. xD Also, she may not have had a concept for the album, but I've read/seen in interviews that sometimes she'll put songs on the record that she feels belong/is their time. In the end it all works out. ;P
  3. Jessica {WWSFTCS}

    I finally got a chance to buy the album, so I was listening to it in my car and thought of another meaning for "Jessica." Before the album was released, I made a joke that Jessica is the character from "The Party." I'm going with that explanation here. You see, in "The Party," the narrator is having a blast with Jessica. They write songs for each other, etc. The narrator soon realizes that if the two of them keep up at their current pace, they're going to quickly run out of fuel. In "Jessica," the narrator is asking her friend to wake up and grow up. January, the start of the new year and new possibilities, is over. It's February yet again, and the narrator is realizing that s/he can't just party all the time. However, s/he still wants to remain friends with Jessica, so the narrator tries to gently convince Jessica to mature with him/her. {Sorry if that made no sense. xD}
  4. Eternal Life {old, unheard song}

    Ohhh... Some people know to walk on water, and others have to learn how to swim. And, others have to learn how to drown, 'cause eternal life is a drag. {Hey-hey!} Some people know to walk on water, and others have to learn how to swim. And, others have to learn how to drown, 'Cause eternal life is a drag. {x3} It goes so slowly, slowly... Ohh... ---------------------- Apparently, this has never been heard before. Reginapolis posted a youtube video with this song. What are your thoughts?

    Ooh! I haven't heard this one yet. I'll give it a listen and give my interpretation of it. :}

  8. ReSpekt: The Musical

    I've done this before, and I thought it would be a fun little experiment. Regina has so many songs. I thought it would be fun to make a list of songs that tell a story, like a musical. For example, the opening scene could be a bright morning where "Folding Chair" plays. We could make it into a little collab. thing maybe? {Sorry if this kind of thing isn't allowed!}

S/he's begging (all the "please" passages) Jessica to wake up so s/he can move on with his/her life ("we must get older"). Either way, I feel like this is a "Beauty" reject. In an interview from a few years ago Regi said she had too many songs for the project and could easily fill a few albums with them. Perhaps this is one? (Especially since it doesn't follow the character of the album at all....WWSFTCS is more dark/mysterious/melancholy and piano heavy for this maudlin guitar tune. It sounds like a soliloquy moment where the main character is in front of the curtain during a scene change in a play) Although I can see where you're coming from, I think it does follow the character of the album {as you put it}. Yes, the rest of the album is dark and mysterious, which makes the light tune of "Jessica" appropriate for the end. She's waking up from the dream. Another thing: I don't know whether or not this was intentional, but I like how in "Small Town Moon" {the album opener}, there's the lyric "Today, we're younger than we're ever gonna be." Then, in the closer, it talks about how "We must get older." It gives the album a real sense of a journey.

    {Copy & paste response -- hope you don't mind!} It made me smile inside because it almost seemed like a playful jab at people saying Regina should make everything like 11:11 - Soviet Kitsch. It's like she's saying, "Wake up from that dream. I can't write songs in the 11:11 vein when I was younger, but I can write songs that reflect a growing me today." To me, it helps tie the entire album together -- almost as though the songs in the album are about themselves. It gives new meaning to the old songs...if that makes any sense.
  12. Jessica {WWSFTCS}

    Lyrics: Jessica, wake up. Jessica, wake up. It's February again; we must get older, so wake up. I can't write a song for you. I'm out of melodies. I can't write a song for you, but I am asking, please, Jessica, wake up. Jessica, wake up. It's February again; we must get older now, so please, wake up. We must get older now, so please, wake up.

  14. reg song you disliked,AT FIRST

    I remember staying up late and catching the video for "Fidelity" on TV. {This would be my first introduction to Regina Spektor.} I didn't like it at all. However, it got stuck in my head to the point where I looked it up and gave it another listen. I ended up really liking it and discovering other great songs by her.

    After listening to all the songs {at least the ones from WWSFTCS ;P}, I'm very excited for the new record! It's fun listening to the songs in the order that they'll appear on the album. Just based on that one concert, it sounds like the songs will flow right into each other. For example, "How" is just a perfect fit after "Patron Saint." {I hope I'm remembering correctly. xD} If I had to guess, I'd say that "Jessica" is going to be a happy tune. It seems like WWSFTCS is doing the opposite of far in that the latter started with the happy tune of "The Calculation" and ended with the mellow "Man of a Thousand Faces." The new album starts with the mellow {at least, mellow in my mind} tune of "Small Town Moon" and {this is pure speculation} ends with the happy tune of "Jessica." Maybe Jessica is the person in "The Party." xD
