My example was from August 1965, and right now I can't be bothered to search through his five album releases which preceded Highway61 for any others.

Your example, however interesting and relevent to Reginas work, was from two years after the release of Dylans first Greatest Hits record.

I would say that Leonard is a great example of the kind of artists who followed Dylans lead in bringing a wealth of poetic lyrics to pop music.

And thank God they did.

Just look at the difference between the Beatles work pre-Rubber Soul, and then the change once they had become Dylanised...

dylan is a great lyricist as is leonard cohen... leonard cohen is my personal favourite... but altho i cant prove wether cohen took inspiration from dylan or not, i would not call him a follower in anyway... despite time.

for me leonards lyrics are written very different and seem to take a different literative inspiration, for me its a classic case of 'you cant compare two different genres'... like u cant compare metallica to the beatles, or u cant compare 2001:a space odyssey to the big lebowski

they seem too far apart for comparison to me, both great in their own ways.

HAHAHA, "u cant compare 2001:a space odyssey to the big lebowski" How about a mashup?

WALTER: Mark it a zero.

HAL9000: I'm afraid I can't do that Walter.

WALTER: HAL my friend. *pulls out gun* You are entering a world of pain. Mark it zero.

DONNY: Can a computer feel pain Dude? *no one acknowledges this*

WALTER: Mark it *points gun at HAL* a Zero.

HAL9000: This game is too important for me to allow you to jeopardize it.

THE DUDE: Walter, put the piece away man.

WALTER: Am I the only one here that cares about the rules! *cocks gun* Mark it ZERO!

HAL: This conversation can serve no purpose anymore. *marks the score 8*

Regina sings in "Samson",

Oh I cut his hair myself one night,

A pair of dull scissors in the yellow light, And he told me that I'd done alright,

And kissed me till the morning light.

In "Hallelujah" she sang,

You saw her bathing on the roof,

Her beauty and the Moonlight overthrew you

And she tied you to the Kitchen Chair,

She broke your throne

And she cut your hair.

I badly need a haircut and although my present hairdresser is very nice,

CheckersBirthday011.jpg

I do wonder if Regina would be up for it and what she charges for a cut and blow dry! Roll Eyes

Maybe you should cut your own hair cos'...

That's what I've been doing for the last ten years and the results are, well, funny.

great lebowski mash- up

also just to put those conspiracy theories to rest: regina, leonard and bob as we've just agreed, the 3 best, most peotic lyricists ever, are all jewish, . david berman (silver jews) and steve malkmus (pavement) are close behind.

so lets all wish regina happy new year (shana tova) for the end of the month

Yet another version of "Samson" there then! Eeker

That remix reminded me of the time I played Regina's CDs on my battered old Hitachi Player in the kitchen in unison with the field mice, that invade our home in the winter, scraping and scratching after my nuts! Big Grin
