how did you get into regina?

I saw her do Fidelity on Conan.

I hadn't really been paying attention and had sadly never heard of her, but she immediately grabbed me and blew me away.

My only regret is that I didn't hear about her back in 11:11 days. I haven't been as impressed by an artist since...maybe ever.

Wow.... December of 2006 a friend of mine was over and we were at the computer listening to music and he forced me to listen to On the Radio and Fidelity and at the time I was reluctant to listen to anything new but I put the two songs on my mp3 player and then i had a new obsession. I downloaded most of her music but I felt guilty so I went to a used record store one day and I actually looking for Songs and/or 11:11 but they only had Begin To Hope and not too long after that I bought Soviet Kitsch and so on..

In early 2007, a person I had subscribed to on Livevideo put up a vid featuring her doing stuff while Regina's Us played. The song intrigued me, especially the vocals, so I did some research and found out about Regina.

I then looked her up on Youtube and listened/watched some more stuff and liked it. It wasn't until I stumbled upon this forum and discovered the site with all her unreleased songs that I became a lifelong fan.

I just read through every one of these and was interested to see that the majority of people found Regina via Fidelity. Most of those whose gateway was Fidelity apparently developed full blown obsessions that extended to all of Regina's oeuvre. Smiler

My favorite story is the person who downloaded some song which was mislabeled and turned out to be Apres Moi.

Also, the guy whose coffee shop co-worker drove him crazy years ago playing Carbon Monoxide over and over, but after he left the job, he found he was obsessed with the song and hoped to come across it---he finally happened upon Regina last year.

I first song I heard by Regina was "Us." I saw the video first, actually. And at first, it freaked me out, because that filming style reminds me of bugs running all over the place, and I turned away from it and just "ew." But then, maybe a week or two later, I saw it again and decided to sit down and really listen to the music and the words, and I almost cried. it was so beautiful Smiler So, that weekend, I ran out and bought Soviet Kitsch (which the title, as you can all imagine, made me very excited Big Grin) and feel in love at first listen. I was skipping around the house singing "NA NA NA NA NANANANA NA NA NANA NA!" Then eventually over the course of a few months I bought BTH, 11:11, and Songs.

Yeah

Whenever I'm watching a show that has a lot of commercials, I switch my channel to MTV hits (the one that just plays mostly pop music videos 24/7) One fateful day, I was watching ANTM (no mocks please =P) and I switched over during a commercial. There was a pair of people on the TV from New York praising Regina Spektor. Normally I'd change it, but I'd heard Regina's name thrown around quite often in a Livejournal community I'm in, so I decided to give her a shot.

The shiny black and white heels sucked me in, and now I'm hopeless.
