Lilyfloss 76 Report post Posted December 29, 2014 I had the same experience with YFB, it sounded like nothing special at first but now I love it. An effect I've noticed on many of Regina's songs! No better is really good too, I wonder if it was an outtake from Pure Heroine. 1 RJLupin2 reacted to this

I'm not a big fan of her latest album, the production is not really my taste. But Some People Have Real Problems is one of my all-time favorite albums. Electric Bird is so good! I hope I'll get to hear her live some time, she genuinely seems like a kind, inspiring person. 1 porcupine-ologist reacted to this

porcupine-ologist 29 Report post Posted January 18, 2015 Oh yeah, I really like Sia's voice! I'm not a big fan of her latest album, the production is not really my taste. But Some People Have Real Problems is one of my all-time favorite albums. Electric Bird is so good! I hope I'll get to hear her live some time, she genuinely seems like a kind, inspiring person. Yeah, I like "Some People Have Real Problems" more than her latest album too. And she does seem like a really lovely person. I listened to Howard Stern's interview with Sia on youtube and she has a very interesting life and process for songwriting...she talks a bit about her father who had different personalities, one good, and one bad. And her alcoholism in the past and stuff, but she seems happy now, and it's a very interesting listen!! for anyone that wants to listen to a long Sia interview. Here's the youtube link for the Sia interview if anyone's interested: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KnjLh39-Nhg Not really into her too much, but I really like Elastic Heart, as well as the video for it. ^^I really like that song, but I actually haven't watched the video. Is it the one with Shiah Lebouff? I saw a post about it on reddit where people were talking about the meaning of the video. Apparently Shiah represents Sia's past self and the girl represents her present self, and they fight because she's angry about all her mistakes, but eventually she forgives herself...that's just one theory or maybe Sia actually explained that? I kinda like the idea of that but didn't feel like watching the video. I just get irritated by Shiah Lebouff because he plagiarized Daniel Clowes and never apologized for it. I think plagiarizing someone else's work is one of the sleaziest things a person can do. But then maybe I'm being petty for holding a grudge against someone I've never met and then it just feels like celebrity gossip stuff ughhhh.... I guess I felt some emotional investment in that whole situation because I really like the movie Ghost World ( I recommend it!) which was based on the comic/graphic novel of the same name by Daniel Clowes (also great, I own it). To be honest I've never even read “Justin M. Damiano” which is the actual graphic novel Lebouff plagiarized, it just still makes me angry you know? Anyway,I'm sorry I went so off topic! It just seems no one ever mentions Daniel Clowes and shia's plagiarism and there's no justice! It's a bit frustrating when people think the worst thing he did was put a paper bag over his head. (sorry for my rambling repetitive rant......I said 'just' too many times)
RJLupin2 78 Report post Posted January 21, 2015 I understand your problems with Shia, but I would be surprised if he ever actually thought he'd actually get away with the plagiarism, and if he really did think he would, I think then he must have been pretty messed up emotionally or mentally. I've had mixed feelings about him my entire life, but I loved him in Even Stevens on Disney so he's always had sort of a soft spot for me. It seems like he's been going through a lot of bad stuff the last few years, just in general making a ton of bad decisions, but now he finally seems to be on an upswing again and I can't help but be glad about that. Plus, he's a really good emotional actor and it really shows in Sia's video.
porcupine-ologist 29 Report post Posted January 27, 2015 ^^Oh I agree that he's not all bad! I think he makes a really good underdog on that show. And I liked that "shia lebeouf real life cannibal" video, which he was a good sport about. I just wish he would be sincere for once and apologize, or offer an explanation...anything. But I don't wish a curse on him or anything ha! I just felt like saying something because no one else ever does, you know? Like can you imagine if...as a crazy example, if Lady Gaga plagiarized one of Regina's songs but no one ever mentioned that and only seemed to be talking about the meat dress? It would be a bit frustrating. Aaaanyway, I feel like I should get the thread back on track with more music... Did anyone else like 'Tyranny' from Julian Casablancas + The Voidz? I really really loved the song Human Sadness. I thought there was supposed to be a music video for it by now. There's mention of them working on one in this interview: http://www.weallwantsomeone.org/2014/11/24/interview-julian-casablancas/ Also here's a pretty interesting article where "Julian Casablancas and Karen O interview each other." I like the part of the conversation about melody and meaning...i'll just quote it hahah.... Casablancas: My biggest issue with lyrics, to go off on a tangent: I always really disliked—not disliked but just personally as a musician-artist couldn't give two S's about musical theater. The two musicals I like are The Wall and Jesus Christ Superstar. Other than that, I really don't like. But I understand why people like it, because there's expression in melody that can say more than just a thing. Even though someone's just singing [Sings] "Hello, how's it going?" the melody can kind of say, Oh, she really loves him or she's scared of this guy. The reason I'm talking about this is because I think it translates to [how] the words themselves get completely transformed meaning-wise by the melody and performance, so you can write the coolest, deepest line, and you sing it, and it just sounds like the most contrived.… And "Ooh, baby, baby, baby…" for some reason, it just works, and it's more powerful. O: When did you figure that out, by the way? Casablancas: I don't know—I wrestle with it constantly, because I don't want to say, "Ooh, baby, baby, baby"; I want to say…whatever. "Freedom to the heatseekers" came into my mind. But "freedom to the heatseekers" doesn't work; it doesn't sound good; it ruins the melody; it sounds heavy-handed. And I'm like, I'll just sing, "Ooh, baby, baby, baby," and the meaning of my song has gone to total S. I have a four-year-old; I don't know why I'm not cursing [here]. I cursed earlier. Lilyfloss 76 Report post Posted September 4, 2015 Anyone heard of Marika Hackman? She's half Finnish which obviously makes me very proud. This is an acoustic version of her song Bath is Black. 1 porcupine-ologist reacted to this
