The band who's blog that is that apparetly also played that day are also quite good - I can't beleive I forgot them. But I guess, it has been almost 6 years, and I didn't get a CD from them to listen to over the years.

wow, very cool.

I looked up Jordaan Mason & the Horse Museum's "Divorce Lawyers I Shaved My Head" album and it sounds crazy good.

from http://thehorsemuseum.tumblr.com : "the horse museum was a band from southern ontario. they sang semi-illiterate songs about sickness & sex (mostly). the horse museum was a large group of singers and players that seemed to constantly be growing, but as these things happen, people have gone on to do separate things." [June 6, 2009 - A'cappella / Experimental / Post punk]

Rare-indie music like this tends to have much more heart and be crafted with love than the commercially-oriented music that comes from bands under corporate labels. They don't have much pressure to sell so they're free-er to take risks, experiment, and do interesting things. The thing that annoys me about some indie bands is that they are hard to find or research, and they tend to have little in the way of organization.

Their album is very easy to *cough* get. I mean, the fourth hit on google is a download link on mediashare.

beh, it's only fair that I introduce you to a good obscure band. I'd recommend Stealing Sheep but they're being coy for now and they're album is coming out in like 2013. I've mentioned them before. Stealing Sheep is a Liverpool-based all-girl psychedelic lofi-folk trio. They have one Limited Vinyl release EP called "The Mountain Dogs". They are freakin' amazing. And pretty too.

Stealing Sheep - Shoot the Ducks To Win

^ note it only has 2,406 views on youtube. Bonus hipster points for me!

I don't think you've heard of Fanfarlo? They are a London-based indie folk-rock band that incorporates a lot of brass instruments, fronted by the swoon-worthy Swedish artist Simon Balthazar and rounding out the group, the beautiful Belgian violinist Cathy Lucas. They have one album called "Reservoir" (2009) and it is awesome and a new album coming in February 28, 2012 called "Rooms Filled With Light". .

I recommend these songs:

Fanfarlo - The Walls are Coming Down

Fanfarlo - Atlas

Fanfarlo - I'm a Pilot

(live)

hopefully those videos will play in Canada. Lemme know what you think. 5 songs for you.

There is one other awesome obscure British band that I'll show you later. =)

I've seen a couple stixers and friends of mine sharing this video about the face books today and figured I'd bring it over here.

So well done.

I'm not sure if I posted this other video with them when I was plugging a friend's band a while back, but they did a cool mumford and sons cover with said friend here: http://www.youtube.com/user/wa...h#p/u/26/-98nmUfaBqs

interview was put together by HIAS. It's titled: myStory:Regina Spektor.

quote:
Russian-born Jewish singer-songwriter Regina Spektor reflects on her immigration to New York in 1989--from the fantasies she and her cousin had about moving to the tropics to the realities of adjusting to life in the Bronx, where their new Jewish community became an extension of her family.

Regina came to the United States through HIAS, an organization that rescues, resettles, and reunites vulnerable refugees. Her interview is part of HIAS' myStory project; view more videos at www.myStory.hias.org.
