Another thing I have to say...

Barack's father was only born into a Muslim family and has a Muslim name - BUT HE IS NOT A PRACTICING MUSLIM! Never was. His father was an Atheist, his mother was Christian and later became Agnostic.

And BARACK OBAMA is a member of The United Church of Christ. HE IS NOT A MUSLIM!

I know a lot of you in this thread are wonderful, color blind, open minded people that don't even see this as an issue, and it's good that you don't...because I wouldn't care if he was a Muslim. I just don't like when people get facts WRONG and spread their ignorance (you all know who I'm talking to).

I know this might not be helping and I know I should put that person I'm talking about on my delete list, but I just had to post the facts.

Wikipedia anyone?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barack_Obama

It's all there! Click the links to info on his parents and it's right there for you.

I just want to add - I am so frickin happy that most of America elected someone who we feel will do the best for our country, regardless of anything superficial and irrelevant.

Now, I just can't wait to see him put that comprehensive Health Plan in place! If he succeeds with that, he will be my FAVORITE president! Save me Obama! I need to go to the doctor! hahah!

ahh health care..

although i am definitely a staunch supporter of universal health care like we have here in canada, if your basing your knowledge off of michael moore's sicko, i would do a bit more research. he was far from unbiased or comprehensive or any other big words in that movie. Particularly the part about wait times. Do not be fooled, wait times for major procedures ARE long. I'm not saying universal health care is a bad thing, its not its great! i'm just saying that we could all benefit from a little research.

in other news, regina spektor is awesome!

Oh I totally agree with that, that was the whole point of my post!

You just don't understand where I'm coming from...ANYTHING has to be better than my current situation. I have NOTHING.

If I get sick, too bad. If I get seriously hurt and I'm rushed to the hospital, I'm screwed with an INSANE bill (and my credit is already fecked).

There is a county health program...I used to have - but they almost let me DIE. I had right sided pneumonia and THEY DIDN'T TELL ME.

So, yeah...anything is better than what I have now.

Ouch, that is not right. There must be some sort of law against that. And even if there isn't, how could they sleep at night?

I hope America adopts an efficient universal health care plan that works. Health care shouldn't be restricted to those that can afford it. It is so worth the taxes.

it is way past my non existent bed time. g'night stix!

I know, it is a pity what they did to me, and I'm sure it is against the law...but you know, there are things they make you sign that probably protects them (especially because of the kind of program I was on).

And you are SO right, health care shouldn't just be for people with money and it IS so worth the taxes! Big Grin

It works for us! (the Brits) - Well the ideal works for us, things are a bit tough on the practical side.

I hear it's horrible in Britain. People can't get the care they need, people die in waiting lists for surgeries, it's awful. You must have lucked out.

Didn't say it was perfect. The idea is a good one. If I get seriously sick tomorrow (with nothing in the bank and no insurance) I won't have to worry about a thing, money wise anyway.

The system has its issues, from superbugs, to under paid staff and lack of funding for research and equipment... But that is true of state organizations in the UK.

hey, the dutchman is back Wink

I took quite an interest in this terms presidential election for the USA, truly history in the making... and then thought: "what would the stix say about it?"

as expected, many of the USAbrums have voted Obama and Musiclover is hurling his usual superstitious-rightwing barf.

is he the only Republican on the boards? makes the whole party look even worse...

If I were American, I'd have voted for Obama... and what's wrong with socialism? a little Scandinavian-style Liberal Socialism would work miracles for the USA.
