almostspotless 14 Report post Posted June 15, 2009 I think this CD is near perfect, personally. I have no problem with any of the production, and if this is the way Reg wanted it, then so be it. I love it all. I adore the Calculation, Two Birds, and Machine, and I think that the old songs were quite well produced as well. So that's my two cents. This is my second favorite Regina CD, I'm thinking. Nothing can really ever amount to the fabulosity that is Soviet Kitsch.
JosephCa64 0 Report post Posted June 15, 2009 The answer would be both! He's worked with Dr, Dre, Eminem and Fiona Apple. Also with 50 Cent, Alanis Morrisette, Nelly Furtado and Pink. Among others. Must be a talented fellow. There's a good article on him here>> http://www.songwriteruniverse.com/elizondo.htm Young guy too.
GeniusNextDoor 0 Report post Posted June 15, 2009 So, I wasn't going to listen to the entire album before it came out, just the new songs once or twice, to get the feel of them but not over-indulge myself, but since it came on myspace i couldn't help myself and i listened to it straight through, so here's what i thought: I don't dislike the production of Blue Lips anymore like I initially had, I just had to take time to get used to the change, and now I really like it. I'm really digging the transition from Human of the Year to Two Birds to Dance Anthem; Human of the Year kind of leaves you in a gloomy, ominous mood, then Two Birds kicks in and picks your soul right up and makes you feel on top of the world, then Dance Anthem takes your good mood and makes you just want to dance. To me, those three songs are the high point of the album, and at the moment my favorite three. Machine is really really awesome. There's no way I can describe it more than that. And The Wallet is just how I always imagined it in my head. The only complaints that I have are with Folding Chair and OMTWF. I don't have a lot of beef with Folding Chair overall, I just have some emotional attachments to the way she sings some parts in the demo version (ex: "I've got a perfect boOoOoDY" "And have a baby booOOOYY" "grafitti up his tooOOOYYS" "you silly clooownnn") that I'm sure to get over in time. Plus I don't like the dolphin part. It's too harsh. And now for One More Time With Feeling. Honestly, I don't think it's as drastically changed as everyone is claiming it to be. If you took out the drum part, it would sounds fairly similar to the original, just sped up a little. My number one problem with it is the drum part. It's just so standard (most of the drums on the record are, which makes me a bit miffed, but I got over it on the other songs, maybe i'll get over it with time on this one) and doesn't add anything ANYTHING at all to the song. I feel like I could get used to the happy tone of the song, if the drums weren't there. But they're not going away, which makes it all the more frustrating for me. And, coincidentally, Genius Next Door happens to be the only song on the record I haven't heard yet, because on the myspace page they have The Wallet in it's place. The irony of it almost makes up for the sadness I feel at not being able to listen to it. So there you go. Overall, the record's really amazing, and it'll probably be my second fav after Soviet Kitsch.
Appt 9 Report post Posted June 15, 2009 Hmm, he's an interesting fellow. I don't like hip hip but have to admit that he has some impressive hits on his resume. Also I really like Alanis Morissette's Flavors of Entaglement but I'd be interesting to hear the stuff she recorded with Elizondo before switching to Sigworth (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Elizondo). silver bullet trailer 0 Report post Posted June 15, 2009 hey all! i've missed a few days of brumstix because well... first i had self control for a day and didn't listen to the album. but then i absolutlely had to. so i set up a proxy server. and in the meantime my computer got some sort of awful virus that wouldn't let me do anything but listen to the stream far. hahaha what a fortunate/unfortunate thing. but now my computer is fixed! so much here to catch up on!!! major thoughts about the album... calculation isn't quite what i expected from the previous but its catchy, fun, and i love it!especially the part about taking their organs/stones out of their bodies and striking them against eachother to make a fire. no one but regina could ever think of something like that! everything about human of the year is ingenious. perfection at its perfect. machine and two birds = wow! creativity, wit. the endings add especially a lot. lots more to say but those are the main things. i'm trying not to listen much so the excitement still hits me when i get a hard copy of the album and can listen to it all the way through.
