Reginaoverdose 6 Report post Posted October 20, 2009 Dog and pony Empty file Cabinet You never forget You never come back the same Each time you go up in flames Each time you begin to blame You never come back the same Just a little bit more love Oh, a little bit more love Just a little bit more love For me Just a little bit more love Oh, a little bit more love But it's alright Don't cry My sweet You were born Unto me I'm torn Unto me I'm worn Unto me Unworn So I danced my dance And I kissed your hands And I took a chance And we fell into a trance Just a little bit more love Oh, a little bit more love Just a little bit more love For me Just a little bit more love Oh, a little bit more love But it's alright Don't cry It's alright Don't cry It's alright Don't cry My sweet Say one, two, three One, two, three One, two, three You sitting on the rooftop Me begging here on my knees I stayed in love with you You're just falling in love with me And darling, you know that ain't right So if love never lasts forever ever, ever Little brother Little lover Twist these strings of fate There is no clean slate So I'm carting away All of myself In this metal crate And my dog and my pony And my empty file cabinet You never forget You never come back quite the same Each time you go up in flames Each time you begin to blame You never come back quite the same Just a little bit of true love Oh, a little bit of true love Just a little bit of true love For me Just a little bit more love Oh, a little bit more love But it's alright Don't cry It's alright Don't cry It's alright Don't cry My sweet Of course I love it (as with all of reginas songs) Still can't figure out what it means to me though. Be like the water, people. 21 Report post Posted October 22, 2009 reading through the lyrics, i just got the impression that it's about a miscarriage.. ? idk why exactly, and there's certainly nothing in the lyrics that leads straight up to that, but for some reason, i feel like it's from the mother's POV, and she's had several failed pregnancies (?) i definitely think this is from a parent's POV.... IDEA: there's adoption/foster care involved. rather than the child dying, they are passed on to a new home. they come back to visit, and at the time that they were adopted had no appreciation for their foster parent. now that they're older and can understand what the narrarator did for them, they're starting to appreciate it and are "starting to fall in love" with him/her (i'm gonna say her, but of course him is plausible). that would explain the significance of the "empty file cabinet", no? Every child in "the system" has a file... maybe the child she sings to was her last foster child. now that s/he is gone, the narrarator wheels away her file cabinet; no more dancing dances and kissing hands. "a little bit more love, oh just a little bit more love for me" refers to when the child is first being adopted by the new parents. "but it's alright. don't cry, my sweet"... because the kid's going to be happy, even if it's hard for the two to part. "You were born Unto me" the baby/child was under her care first "I'm torn" doesn't want to give the child up, but knows she should "Unto me" (but it's /my/ baby!) "I'm worn" either: 1. the nar. has been doing this for years, and it's always difficult (i lean toward this interp.) or 2. regardless of how many kids she's taken in, she's gone over this scenario over and over in her mind, dreading it, and holding her breath about it. Now she's just tired. "Unto me Unworn" this is interresting, and i think it's the foster mom looking at the stark contrast between her own worried, frayed self, compared to the innocent, fresh, young child. Maybe this makes her all the more willing to give the baby away, because she's been around the block, you know? she's aged, and the baby deserves to have someone youthful and new to the experience (Disclaimer: i'm speculating on the nararator's thought process, not saying who can or can't be a good parent!) gaah!! i gotta go. i'll post more after Russian Tea is over!
