Be like the water, people.

December

Recommended Posts

I pretty much think the same as everyone else. one of regina's simplest songs but still one of my favorites. I love the melody

The song is about a woman who is still in love with her ex.. she's in denial and won't give up her love, thinking that he'll come back (asking him to say he's sorry... and for him to see all the love she has for him.) There are rumors he has a new girlfriend and moved on, but she dismisses that in the same was she is in denial about everything else. She refuses to have the relationship end (not evacuating the house)\

edit: Forgot to add that the beginning is her asking her ex if he will change his mind.. that maybe since it's a new month and time has passed they will get back together.

I think "december" is a song about a couple.

but not any ordinary couple. they are living in the pre-second world war years, (in Germany maybe?)

I think she is a Jew, and he is not, but that doesn't matter, because they are living in peace... until now...

then, the second world war begins, and that's when she says "Rumours have started that you are in love again, rumours that are completely unsubstantiated"... He is "in love" with the nazi ideology, He is called to enlist in the german army forces.

she now sees He has changed, he's not the same guy she used to love.

finally, the time has come, and the nazis are sending all the jews to the concentration camps.

The man who used to be her boyfriend comes to her house with all the "crew", ingoring that She used to be his girlfriend.

She desesperately says to him "can't you see all this love?". And referrencing to the nacional socialism, she says "come on and say you're sorry for all the trouble that you caused", she knows that jews are being discriminated, and death is around the corner...

the line "we're not evacuating this house" is pretty obvious in this context, the girl and her family don't want to leave... She doesn't believe in him anymore now he is with the "wrecking crew".

I wonder what appened next, I'm sure the nazis send them to the concentration camp, and the poor girl and her family died...

What a sad sad sad song... That guy was really mean with his girlfriend Razzer

God I can't get over how powerful this song is. It really is the perfect illustration of the emotion it is supposed to portray.

The mental image I have for this song is someone standing inside a house saying "we are not evacuating this house" over and over again when the house has in fact been evacuated a long time ago.

Also, I have always assumed that "won't you feel happier then?" was meant in a bitter way since the overall tone of the song is so bitter.

I'm just curious, I read that Warner Records is releasing another holiday album, and that Regina is contributing this song. Is there just the demo version, or is there an official version floating around somewhere?

December appeared on the Soviet Kitsch vinyl and on Us and Fidelity CD singles, so there is an official version.

Hmm, I have three recordings with different durations - demo (2:08) and official recording (vinyl 2:07 and CD 2:09 rip) but to be honest I am unable to distinguish any difference between the demo and the official recording.

I just read about this too. How exciting! Nothing I read gave details about the song except the title. You'd think she'd record it officially new for the album. (But the demo version is still already good though)(as we all know) Smiler

I have, I love it. I overlaid the two recordings( the fidelity single and new new one) and they matched up. I can in my opinion say its the same just a little louder and cleaned up.
