well said, I absolutely agree.

when it comes to gender stereotypes though, I think it's easy to get "tempted" to play along with it. It's like we've been fed with the image of the knight in shining armor and the beautifully vulnerable (and feeble) young virgin so much, that when we get a chance to play one of these parts, I think we get into it just automatically.

*raises hand* Guilty!

That is too true... I really think just hit the nail on the head. I have nothing to add because you said it so perfectly. It's almost as though we feel we have to fulfill these roles just because they're so ingrained into our society, and this is especially true of men.

*raises hand* guilty too I'm afraid.

so I'd say, maybe not especially true of men, but of women too.

it's only natural really, to adapt to norms so to say. not doing so at all shows a lack of empathy alternately understanding of social codes I'd say.

but I think most people, once they get a little older, do it less.

If the woman really does sincerely want to pay for the date, or some of it, then I have no problem letting her. But if I don't pay I feel like a huge jerk. This one time a friend of mine who is a girl, asked me to go with her to get her drink refilled at the Movies. I said sure and went with her. Next thing you know we find out you cant get refills. And you know how expensive shit is at the Movies. I HAD to buy her a new drink.....that is just me though.

Can you say chump? Will you do anything to get in her pants?

^^ MusicLover I was being nice. She is my friend. Thats what friends do, they help each other out, ring any bells? Ever socialized with anyone in your life? Ever had a friend?

I would not do that to complete strangers. I like to be nice. And I felt bad so I helped her out. Quit making wild accusations that I am trying to get into her pants by paying for her drink.

my oldest brother calls me chump sometimes.

but he's real. musiclover can't possibly love any music.

he's a spy. he's even a bigger asshole than my oldest

brother, who actually has the capacity to love music,

as he's sang it in public enough. as gracefully as me?

it's a family battle. i think i win.

'Cause we all know the key to anyone's pants is buying them some soda at the movies. Roll Eyes
