SmallTownMoon 0 Report post Posted May 24, 2010 Alright, alright, I know you're going to say that this is an old ballad and that it shouldn't be in lyrics section, but I think Regina's (and Levon Vincent's, I suppose) interpretation of the story should be discussed. first off, the lyrics: Two sisters went to the river bend Went too soon, they're liable to drown Parked their cars at the edge of the town Slipped off their gowns and went slithering down One was the poet's love One was the poet's laugh One had a fire in her breast One was the poet's eyes First they wash their feet Then they wash their hands One went right to sleep The other with gills and fins One sank down like a rock As the other one floated away Thinking about the ticking of clocks And what will the neighbors say? And a neighbor said Two sisters went to the river bend Went too soon, they're liable to drown Parked their cars at the edge of the town Slipped off their gowns and went slithering down Two sisters went to the river bend Went too soon, they're liable to drown Parked their cars at the edge of the town Slipped off their gowns and went slithering down To the river bend... Two sisters went to the river bend Went too soon, they're liable to drown Parked their cars at the edge of the town Slipped off their gowns and went slithering down and the wikipedia page on the story: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twa_Sisters I hadn't read that before now, and I noticed Regina seemed to make some serious changes to the original plotline. It sounds to me like instead of the one sister murdering the other, they both drown (when I first heard this my assumption was by accident). Furthermore, it sounds like one dies (One went right to sleep) and the other turns into a fish? (The other with gills and fins) can't wait to hear your thoughts! Ha, I doubt anyone would have said that. Anyway, the name of Regina/Levon Vincent's version is Two Sisters, not Twa.

Kb93 1 Report post Posted May 24, 2010 The part about gills and fins I always thought the other one had drowned. I came to that by the part of one sinking down like a rock and the gills and fins would be an association With the water
