Uhhh, Brady... I hesitate to even post in the thread because it's generally horrible, and because I'm sure inciting debate/argument will overjoy ML, but it's kind of important so...

I fully understand that musiclover makes people crazy. At times it is a struggle not to respond to his outrageous comments. AND I am all too well aware that it is just as impossible to AGREE with him on a point as it is to disagree with him. That being said, you ought to reconsider making equally outrageous rebuttals containing overgeneralizing inflammatory statments, loads of stereotypical retoric, and incomplete lines of reasoning that may be really offensive to a lot of people other than just MusicLover.

Hey, I posted in this thread, it can't be that horrible...

... as for the rest of your post: I concur.

I'm not one for rules, so think of this more like a moral -- "If your post has the intention to make (or a high likelihood of making) someone feel bad, don't post it."

brady - nice stereotyping. Just because I don't go out of my way to bash Christians doesn't make me a religionist. Nice logic there. Oh and I support capitalism because it's the best way to bring the highest standard of living to the most people. Does everyone win in capitalism - no? There are always losers for whatever reasons. But under socialism/communism we are ALL losers.

First off, my intention is to not make people feel bad. I am just referring to my experience with people thus far and how fed up I am with it. I am also not just targeting Conservatives and I apologize if that is what it came across as.

I am just as tired with Liberals being fucking pansees, laying over, and not staying true to what they stand for. I also see them just buying into what the media tells them. I'm tired of Conservatives pretty much being a bunch of gun loving, bible thumping, hayseed idiots.

When I was younger I unfortunately used to be ignorant about Socialism....(Had the typical US citizen attitude towards it.)...Then I went out like the nerd I am and legitimately studied up on it. My view on it dramatically changed and especially changed when I seriously educated myself on Capitalism. I am actually not a Socialist but a Democratic Socialist. Under a Social Democracy capitalism would be reformed to align it with the ethical ideals of social justice but the basic capitalist mode of production would be kept.

I love this country. I love how I can stand up and express that I'm an Atheist and not got stoned to death. This nation can be so much better than it is intellectually speaking. Stupid really isn't the right term as its really just Americans not educating themselves and people just listening to other people and news stations. It's ignorance, but a lot of times that can come across as stupidity. And I am just flat out sick of it and dissapointed.

I don't care what you believe. Whether your a Christian or an Atheist. A Conservative or a Liberal. A Marxist or a Capitalist....AS LONG as you bring it to the table in an intellectual, knowledgeable, and civil manner. Please bring back the days of Reagan or William F. Buckley. Would I dis-agree with them if they were alive today? HELL YES. But they were intelligent and knowledgeable about what they stood for. And I have/had very much respect for those men and would LOVE to listen to them speak and hear their views despite me being as left as I am. What arguments do I encounter now? "OBAMA'S A SOCIALIST!?"..."COMMIE HEALTHCARE!".....And who do we have now? Fucking Sarah Palin? Sean Hannity? Keith Olberman? I mean really?....We outta be absolutely embarrassed with these people.

Oh and MusicLover as far as being against stereotyping pull your head outta your ass and quit calling all Liberals hipsters. Hypocritical much?

Hello, generalizations. Wink

I don't see how you denouncing Liberals as "fucking pansies" and conservatives as "gun loving, bible thumping, hayseed idiots" is any better than ML calling Liberals hipsters. In fact, I think I'd rather be called a hipster, if I was forced to pick one of the two stereotypes. :/

You two are doing the exact same thing. And you're not going to win with Sir MusicLover.

Remember what I said about people's beliefs? I don't care what you believe as long as you are intelligent about it when you bring it to the table. My 8th grade History teacher was EXTREMELY Conservative. But he was so knowledgeable about his position and I would talk with him all time after class and on Facebook. He was extremely educated about politics and was easily the best teacher I have ever had outside of our many Political discussions. Their are intellectual Conservatives out there and I always have respect for them. Their are also Liberals who don't just listen to the news and stand their ground on issues. Unfortunately the majority of what I see is the contrary.

I mean what I'm talking about is in my own freaking family! My stepfather literally and seriously thinks ALL Republicans are evil. Last week my Uncle had an epic fail due to him being a fundamentalist Conservative always criticizing socialized medicine and then he telling me with no shame that he got free flu shots from Medicare. -____-

*SIGH*

Your one anecdote really *proves* all Republicans are evil. Keep up the stereotypes!

^ You misread my statement. I think it's stupid that he thinks all Republicns are evil. I was talking about how unfortunately I see what I'm criticizing in my own family. Then I gave my stepfather and uncle as examples. (Yes, I am criticizing my own family.)

Oh, political debate. It's just a bunch of impassioned people siting their own infinitely subjective experience as absolute truth. And then what little objective truth there actually is gets lost, smeared, and blurred beyond reason. When will we realize that we are just like everyone else? Love and compassion for everyone, even 'rednecks' (which is a pretty hatefully used term in my opinion), even communists, even even idiots, even nazis, terrorists, pedophiles and murderers, is the only way to fight injustice. And of course we have to uphold our rights to life and freedom, but anger and hatred, in all forms, directly cloud our ability to uphold those things indiscriminately and unabashedly.

Jesus knew it. Right up there with "turn the other cheek" was "love your enemy."

MLK knew it. "When we allow freedom to ring,... black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual, "Free at last! free at last! thank God Almighty, we are free at last!"

Hey, even regina knows it. "People are just people, they shouldn't make you nervous... people are just people like you."

Why can't we realize that absolute, unapologetic empathy is the only true path to peace and prosperity?
