Introduce Yourself! Brümstix Questionnaire

It seems that I'm the only Malaysian here! Living proof that Regina's music spreads far and wide. (Pardon my poor English. English is not my mother tongue)

Stats

Name or nickname:Choo Sum Lee. It's a translated version of my chinese name,李柱声.

Age:17

Gender:Male

Relationship status: Single

Location: Malaysia. For those who had never heard of the country, it's just below Thailand, and right above Singapore. In fact, Singapore was once a part of Malaysia.

Languages: English, Chinese, Malay

Life

Occupation: High-school student.

Hobbies: Reading, Writing (in English. I'm always trying to improve my English. Someday I hope my writing can be half as good as native English speakers)

Interests: science, life, words, regina spektor

Favorite Things

Foods: Fish ( no other seafood, just fish)

Color: Indigo

Books: A Series of Unfortunate Events by Daniel Handler (aka. Lemony Snicket),Angels and Demons by Dan Brown, Terry Pratchett's Discworld, Sherlock Holmes

TV: Sherlock BBC, Dr. Who, How I Met Your Mother, Boardwalk Empire

Movies: Inception, Temple Grandin, The Cove, An Inconvenient Truth, Sherlock Holmes

Music: Regina, Regina, Regina!! Radiohead, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Tom Waits, The Strokes, Beirut, Hans Zimmer, The Fray, and everything else that touches the soul. (None of my friends listen to any of these true artists. Can't blame them. Our very own English radio is tarnishing their minds with Katy Perry, LMFAO, Nikki Minaj......UGH!!YUCK!! Can you imagine how hard it is to be the only one who appreciates good music? Oh, how i wish that someday, someone will hear me humming and say, "Hey, you listen to Regina Spektor? I love Regina!"

Misc

Origin or meaning of your Username: Just took it from my full name.

First time you heard Regina: My sister introduced me to "The Ghost of Corporate Future" 2 years ago. I loved the lyrics, but her unique style put me off. I started checking her songs out, until i stumbled upon "Genius Next Door"...and cried. It was so hauntingly beautiful...the first time music moved me to tears. Since then I fell deeply in love with her. I started including Regina's songs in my MP3 and deleting everything else because nothing else is as good as her. So for a long period of time, my playlist consisted of only one artist, Regina Spektor.

Top 5 Regina Spektor songs:I know about 83 of her songs, and loved each and every one, so it is quite hard for me to pick favorites. Anyways, here goes:

Loveology

Just Like The Movies

Hallelujah (Leonard Cohen)

Genius Next Door

Somedays

Who/What inspires you: Regina Spektor, Anne Frank, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes, The Baudelaires

Looking forward to this year: What We Saw From The Cheap Seats

Welcome Choo Sum! So nice to have people from so many different parts of the world! Your English seems pretty darn good if you ask me. I’m taking a class on Southeast Asia right now, so I’m learning a little bit about Malaysia... hope to go there one day Smiler

I’ve been around here for a while, but it seems I’ve never gotten around to filling this out, so here goes…

Misc

Origin or meaning of your Username: One of my favorite regina lyrics is “Let’s get a silver bullet trailer and have a baby boy, I’ll safety pin his clothes all cool and you’ll graffiti up his toys.” My username was an attempt to use this lyric : )

First time you heard Regina: It was probably around 2004 or 2005. A family friend sang Flyin’ in a recital she did and I thought all the stomping and clapping was awesome. I guess that’s not really hearing Regina, but hearing a regina song. Anyway I kept the program from the recital so I could remember to look up “regina spektor” when I got home and I downloaded some songs. It wasn't until about a year later, when Chemo Limo came on on my ipod’s shuffle that I became obsessed.

Top 5 Regina Spektor songs: perhaps Belt, Summer in the City, Human of the Year, Us, Dulce et Decorum Est Pro Patria Mori? I also think her “Mockingbird” satire is genius.

Random fact about yourself: I can ride a unicycle

Who/What inspires you: music, big landscapes, genuine and passionate people, unexpected kindness

Best thing about last year: I got to see my family a lot

Looking forward to this year: I’ll be living in China for 6 months (the summer and then a semester). And hopefully my Chinese will get good!!!!!
