Old Music We Shouldn't All Forget

Recommended Posts

Good idea! I haven't been differentiating between the newness of songs when posting to "New music we should all hear". It might be a bit of work, but include year if possible or convenient? I'll move my oldies playlist here (different versions of old sometimes traditional folks songs by different people):

Procol Harum - "Skip Softly (My Moonbeams)" from the 1968 'Shine On Brightly' album

(lyrics in description)

Procol Harum - "A Whiter Shade Of Pale" (1967)

Julie Felix - "If I Could (El Condor Pasa)" (1970) - traditional Peruvian folk song

(stereo)

Simon & Garfunkel - "El Condor Pasa (If I Could)" (1970)

Leonard Cohen - "Hey, thats no way to say goodbye" (1967)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jexNsBjz1r8 (studio)

^ beautiful... I love this song! I played it on repeat the last few days of my senior year in high school.

this makes me unbelievably happy:

Leonard Cohen with Julie Felix - "Hey that's no way to say goodbye"

(1967, song goes from 0:47 to 1:50, Jools Holland)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wdr04EwDd2o&t=1m13s (1976, song starts at 1:13)

Leonard Cohen - Bird On A Wire (1969)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yp18sKXaFlE (studio/minimalistic)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FY9uCg5W-dQ (live 1972)

Fairport Convention - "Bird On A Wire" (HEYDAY - BBC RADIO SESSIONS 1968-69) -- one of my **favoritest** songs ever in the history of music.

Johnny Cash - "Bird on a Wire" (1994)

Judy Collins - "Bird On A Wire"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IYw283vgm2w&t=0m45s (1976)

(1980)

Julie Felix - That's No Way To Say Goodbye

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5we8GkUsZfk ('60s or '70's b&w)

Julie Felix - Both Sides Now (Joni Mitchell)

(lyrics on screen)

Leonard Cohen On The Julie Felix Show, 1967 "The Stranger Song"

Julie Felix - Hey, Mister Tambourine Man (Bob Dylan/The Byrds)

(28 March 2008 - still kickin' it!)

Why we need this thread:

Fucking youngsters don't know about The Beatles:

http://www.reddit.com/r/Music/...who_are_the_beatles/

I hate that girl with the pink hair. I hate her so much. Her favorite band probably sucks too.

They were the greatest band and the first worldwide rock band phenom, that's why they're such a big deal. They were musically complex enough to win the respect of the aristocratic elites of the time, catchy enough to win the admiration of the masses, and sexy enough to win the hearts of every girl ever. You can basically thank them for inventing good music, and John Lennon basically invented rap with Come Together. I can seriously listen to The Beatles for the rest of my life. I get a spiritual high from it. Listen to The Magical Mystery Tour album; acquire enlightenment.
