Someone wrote a song about Regina!

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

it's been a while since I last posted on here, but when I found this on YouTube, I just had to check the forum - and since there's nothing about this on here... You catch my drift. I should get to the point :D

I Dreamt I Made Love To Regina Spektor (Official Video) by Jack Rubinacci:

I think it's cool and strange and creepy all at once. I was so flustered when I found it...

What do you guys think about it?

I just found a note that the Avett Brothers 'Famous Flower of Manhattan' was written about Regina.. seems to make sense.. my apologies if this has already been discussed:

"And I found a flower in a field

A field of cars and people

Rows of concrete, paint, and steel

Manhattan is where it grew

And I thought to cut it from its stem

And take it from the cracks

Between the bricks that it lay in

And save it from the city strife

Away from the city life

Then someone they whispered in my ear

A country girl can't be made out of anybody here

Don't touch it, it loves you not

Don’t touch it, it loves you not

Cause blue birds don't fly without their wings

And when we put them in a cage

The world can't hear them sing

So selfish when greed sets in

Possession, the king of sin

And people don't ever let you down

Forever find a way to kill

Whatever life they've found

A heart beat and I want it too

Manhattan is where she grew

So I left and I let the flower be

And yesterday I saw the flower on cable TV

Much prettier than here with me

For all of the world to see

Much prettier than here with me"

I've always loved songs by LEVY (James Levy) written about regina, like:

"Rotten Love"

I think about Regina

And what she's done for me

I think about Regina

She's so sweet

I said tonight is the party

Would you like to come

But she said no I can't James

And he smelled of

He smelled of rotten love

"On the Dancefloor"

I didn't know, you were so old

You look so young to me

On the dance floor, jeans underneath a flower skirt to your knees

In our conversation, you asked me, "Son, you're crazy enough for me.

She said, "I will take you home if you want to." But I got scared

I didn't say yes, she went home with another boy instead.

and, although I don't know for sure if it's about regina, I can't help but get the idea that it is..

"Rector Street"

Four months since I saw you

From the first time, I knew.

I need to find a way,

I need to get away to you tonight.

And please don't laugh at me,

but I have a thing or two to say to you,

but god, it is so cruel.

For years I've dreamed of you

Don't sing, it makes me cry.

I won't let someone like you pass me by.

I need to find a way,

I need to get away to you tonight

And please don't laugh at me,

but I have a thing or two to say to you,

but god, it is so cruel.

For years I've dreamed of you

Tonight I watch you sleep alone downtown on rector street...

The last song reference reminds me very much of Leonard Cohen in voice and content..an example:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iW8rFho6In8

Regina has often cited LC as a reference and inspiration and covered at least two of his songs (Hallelujah and Chelsea Hotel No. 2)

and while LC could be referring to any number of women (or none in particular, or all of them), it is reasonably likely the woman about whom this song was written is Regina's predecessor (in my mind)---Joni Mitchell. If you ever see Lauren Fox' "rendition" of their relationship, you get the point: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/02/21/arts/music/lauren-fox-sings-songs-of-joni-mitchell-and-leonard-cohen.html?_r=0
