  1. Name that Reg Tune... in other words

Pound of Flesh: "If you're never sorry, then you can't be forgiven; if you're not forgiven, then you can't be forgotten; if you're not forgotten, then you must live forever." "I have departed and do not wish to remain in communication with you."
  2. misheard lyrics

This isn't a misheard lyric, but I can never hear the "forgets" at the end of "Lady." Is it before the saxophone or during?

I think that's what he was trying to do. http://www.google.com/url?sa=t...CFB74qNOonvQ&cad=rja That article hurt my head. A lot of the things he mentions/criticizes ("an ugly as hell black and red dress") are way out of line and completely unnecessary. It's so funny how he butchered a few of her song titles. Wow @ this guy. a terrible first song she has been trotting out for a month A month???? hahahaha try like 5 years. his a new song called "How" is among her best ever... a potential inclusion into the Great American Songbook...this song is so beautiful, it is immediately one of her greatest moments. With all due respect to regina and How, this guy is on crack. I would be pretty sure that a woman who starts a love song with "We were like sisters…" is playing hide in plain sight. Good thing those aren't actually the lyrics then. OMG people cannot write worth shit. I hope this guy didn't get paid for this horrid piece of english and non-factchecked thing. Dear God. I don't care if you're critical but try to use some grammar and punctuation and knowledge. The Calculator...LOL ok...i'm done now...bahahaha can anyone take that seriously??? I didn't realize it was even possible not to like "Ain't No Cover." You learn something new every day, I guess. "We were like sisters"? What song is that supposed to be? I'd guess "Better" if the "born like sisters" bit were at the beginning, but as it stands I have no idea.
  4. Reg in Voxpop Magazine (FR)

I have the cover of that magazine blown up as a poster on my wall! Also, I love hearing her talk about her parents. I love my own, but it still kind of makes me jealous. They sound like such great people.
  5. Name that Reg Tune... in other words

I'm going to take the liberty of suggesting a new one. "I was completely mistaken: the apocalypse did not occur."
  6. Oh my god, thanks so much! Obviously "Uh-Merica" was really meant for a live audience. And "Hotel Song" sounds fantastic a cappella.
  7. Hey guys! I have a couple of dumb questions. First: Where can I find the Hotel Song demo? The posts I've found where people were offering it had links that either had expired or were from Megaupload. Second: There's an official pre-Begin to Hope version of "Uh-Merica" out there somewhere, right? I can't find the "Carbon Monoxide" single it's supposedly attached to on iTunes or Amazon.
  8. Name that Reg Tune... in other words

"Down in the ground they're tattooing the stones with cusses, like cavemen ..." "I have determined how to reach her by telephone."
  9. Other good music

Florence is terrific! I haven't heard much besides Lungs, though. I thought about seeing Eclipse, half for the fun of it and half because she's on the soundtrack, but then I couldn't be bothered. Her cover of Beirut's "Postcards from Italy" is pretty great. Another one you should all check out is Laura Marling, a British folk singer. Usually I tell people to start with "Rambling Man," "Failure" or "Night After Night," both because they're more accessible than some of her other songs and because they're some of my favorites. But I'm guessing most Regina fans can handle the weirder stuff, so you can probably start with whatever.

I LOVED "Open." I think what they did with it is exactly right. Did anyone notice she sang "Ne Me Quitte Pas" with the old ending? That was the one thing I really missed on the new version.

My friend and I are lower balcony also, 108 and 109. I haven't been active on this forum in a while, and I didn't meet any of you the last time I saw her. How on earth will I know who you guys are?
  12. Spare front row ticket to Radio City NYC tonight

oh my god sooo tempted ... but I have a philosophy paper due tomorrow that still needs a ton of work.

quote: Originally posted by Rinoa: quote: Originally posted by RJLupin2: We should definitely be happy and supportive of her, but... I don't know... I just.. I just feel very weird about this for some reason. This may actually have to do with my very strange feelings for her, I just realized (you know, the feelings that I asked advice for that no one was really able to figure out what the hell it was/is). I'm feeling weird, too. I'm explaining that to myself like this: Great, she has a long term boyfriend, now all my fantasies about her being a lesbian and asking me to marry her when I meet her ( hopefully) are blown away. And I'm not even a lesbian. Also there's this fear telling me " No Regina, don't marry him or something, not yet! And the kids! Noooooo! What will happen to the music?! " Being a fan is a funny thing. I'm a girl and live in Connecticut, so of course I've been hoping for an opportunity to meet Regina, sweep her off her feet, and bring her to my house, where a justice of the peace would conveniently be waiting. ETA: Not that I'm not happy for her, of course.
  14. Interviews & Appearences 2009

I love the Werchter interview! The interviewer actually kept her questions short and let Regina talk, which not many seem to do.

  16. "Far" Regina's Next Album :D

quote: Originally posted by almostspotless: Most macs come with garage band, which you can use to put the track in there (since for some reason, Reg's songs aren't protected on itunes like some are) and then chop the end off. I'm pretty much technologically inept. So if that doesn't work, then I'm out. I did that! It worked great except that I can't get the song to its proper place in the track order. quote: Originally posted by Lost in the Sounds: Do you use Itunes? If so, a really easy way to fix it is right click the song and click 'options' and change the stop time. That's what I did, and it even burnt on to a cd at 3 mins, 12 seconds, like I asked it to. That's what I've done for the moment--I just wish there were something I could do to have a file that actually doesn't have those ten minutes in there so that it won't take up as much room on my iPod. But as long as I don't have to fast forward every time I listen to the song, progress has been made as far as I'm concerned.
  17. "Far" Regina's Next Album :D

Can someone help a technological idiot? I'd really rather have the version of MOATF without the ten extra minutes, which take up a ton of space. But all I have is the CD and a Macbook. Is there some program I can use to cut off part of the song as it is, or do I need one to convert the file to an mp3 first so that I can use the mp3-cutting program someone mentioned a while back? And do they make programs that suit my needs and work on Macs?
  18. Review of "Far"

quote: Originally posted by Soiram: quote: Originally posted by bum bum bum: this one was frustrating to read..some might agree with it though. http://strangeglue.com/reviews/regina-spektor-far I agree with the review...The songs are beautiful but some of them are obviously "simplified" for the larger audiences...I'm not sure how the generic beat/drums in the background of "Blue Lips" makes the song better or more interesting...I much prefer the acoustic version with just Regina's piano or with the addition of some strings... I hope this doesn't make me anachronistic or stuck to the "old" Regina. Evolution is highly appreciated but it seems to me that this is forced upon her and not as natural as some of you seem to think. This was posted a while ago, but I just wanted to add my two cents. I can understand why you feel that way, and I agree that the songs wouldn't have sounded exactly as they do if the producers hadn't been there to make suggestions, but I'm not sure "force" is the right word. I think what the producers mainly did was to give her ideas. In some cases I wish they hadn't, but I also don't think they did anything more than it was their job to do, or made Regina do anything against her will. Remember how many different kinds of music she likes, and how she said she would only join the label on the condition that she got to have the final word on the creative decisions? As much as I love and miss the simple piano-and-vocals Regina, isn't it possible that this seemingly new version is just another dimension of her that she didn't have the resources to show us before?

I feel safer owning the actual object. Ahhh, I can't wait! (out of curiosity: what is the Amazon special edition missing that other versions have?)
  20. Songs that never get old

Regina: Braille. And too many others to name. Beatles: Please Please Me, too many others to name. Bob Dylan: Most of the Time, too many others to name. Jacques Brel: Ne Me Quitte Pas. Check out Nina Simone's version. I also have a terrible weakness for Belle and Sebastian's "I'm a Cuckoo." And I agree with whoever said "One Fine Day" a while back.

I bought just that version because I wanted an actual CD. I've never been on acid either, but I've read descriptions, and it sounds just like this video. And you know how he "eats a small lump of sugar"? I think people used to take acid that way--or anyway, I know that's how it was first given to The Beatles.
  22. "Far" Regina's Next Album :D

Jumping on the bandwagon of supplicants ... would anyone be willing to send me Riot Gear? I would be forever grateful. queenjaneapproximately at hotmail dot com.
  23. "Far" Regina's Next Album :D

My only e-mail address has my name in it; is there by any chance anyone who is willing to send me Riot Gear if I PM them my address? Or is that not kosher?
  24. Reg's next album - wish list

I feel sort of bad doing this right as Regina's about to give us a whole new album, but I can't help wishing there were official versions of these: Small Town Moon Dog and Pony Patron Saint Down the Road and Up the Hill Paris Bobbing for Apples Baby Jesus
  25. Beacon Theatre - June 17, 2009

This discussion may have ended a while ago, but I read somewhere that Regina said she was 5'4". Tiny, but taller than me! I'll post the link if I can manage to find it.
