RIP Dan Cho

Recommended Posts

So so incredibly sad!! He's been such a nice face to see right next to Regina while watching all her concert videos. Life is so precious!! Ya know, sometimes I like it better when Regina's just home and snug in NY. All that airplane travel drives me nuts.

My prayer: Please stay safe Regina and company!! We love you all and are immensely sorry for your loss!!

I am stunned. This so tragic; I'm having trouble wrapping my mind around it. I feel honored to have seen him perform so many times, and am all the more grateful to have been able tell him that he was appreciated. Over and over in my mind, I keep hearing "Dan Cho on Cellooooh." My heart goes out to his family and to regina and the rest of her band. How she played a show yesterday and is even going on, i have no idea??? Such sad news.

Very sad to hear about the surprising, unexpected and sudden passing of the very young and talented Daniel H. Cho. My thoughts and condolences go out for his friends and family, especially his wife Julia and daughter Audrey.

I found this article in French:

Edit: From Wikipedia:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R...Spektor#Performances

"On July 7 2010, Regina came on the stage of the "Montreux Jazz Festival" in Switzerland while crying to tears. Her cellist, Dan Cho, drowned the day before while swimming in Lake Geneva, near the Chillon beach. Nevertheless she played for 40 minutes."

Edit2: I found another article about a drowning at Lake Geneva. I'm guessing this is him:

"Montreux, Switzerland (GenevaLunch.com) - An American in his thirties drowned while swimming in Lake Geneva, near the Chillon beach in Montreux Tuesday afternoon 6 July, Vaud police say. He and a fellow American were swimming together near the Chateau de Chillon, but the friend lost sight of him around 14:00 and an alarm was quickly raised. A 14-man rescue operation recovered his body, 15 metres from the beach, in three metres of water. An investigation into the death is underway. The area around Montreux is filled with tourists this week, with the Montreux Jazz Festival running until 17 July."

It's odd that neither article mentions him by name. ;\

World Radio Switzerland: "Subdued, sublime Spektor concert after tragedy - Sad news out of Montreux this week as Regina Spektor’s bassist and cellist Daniel Cho drowned in Lake Geneva on Tuesday, the day before the band was set to play at the Montreux Jazz Festival. Spektor and her band played on in a moving tribute to Cho, with an empty chair spotlit in his honor. WRS’s Laura Leishman was there: Songs have been cut due to copyright restrictions. Listen to full songs from the concert when the Summer Festivals 2010 segment airs weekdays at 5:30 p.m."

Reuters: "A tearful Regina Spektor kicked off the Wednesday night show, paying tribute to her late cellist Daniel Cho who festival sources said had drowned in Lake Geneva a day before. A spotlight shone on his empty chair and cello on the stage during the performance by the Russian-born American singer and pianist. "They decided to go on with the show and their tour," a source close to the festival told Reuters."
