Bob Dylan is performing a three-act suite with the Avett Brothers and Mumford & Sons at the Grammys this Sunday. And Arcade Fire is also performing! I'm so psyched. I guess I'll be watching this year.

http://latimesblogs.latimes.co...-the-avett-bros.html

"Mumford & Sons will perform their soaring, banjo-laced song 'The Cave', which will give way to the Avett Brothers and their pulsing folk anthem 'Head Full of Doubt, Road Full of Promise'... " Then Bob Dylan will play something which is a surprise.

Other (mainstream) performances include Mick Jagger, Lady Gaga, Eminem, Cee Lo Green with Gwyneth Paltrow, Muse, Katy Perry, and others.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/5...my_Awards#Performers

Bob Dylan's voice has pretty much gone, but I'd have to say he's probably the greatest songwriter ever (see "Like a Rolling Stone", "Blowin' in the Wind", "Positively 4th Street", "Forever Young", "With God on Our Side", "Mr. Tambourine Man" by the Byrds, "All Around the Watchtower" by Jimi Hendrix). I enjoyed this recent performance:

Bob Dylan - "The Times, They are a-Changing" (2010)

("In Performance at the White House: A Celebration of Music From the Civil Rights Movement") - link will probably get taken down for copyright, even though it should be in the public domain. ;-\

I haven't quite gotten around to Avett Brothers yet, but Wikipedia says the Avett Bros are "Alt Country, Indie rock, folk, folk punk, roots rock". Mumford & Sons are British indie folk / folk-rock.

If you don't know Mumford & Sons, this should bring you up to speed:

Mumford and Sons - "Little Lion Man" [power rock; epic heavy folk]

(official video)

Mumford & Sons - "The Cave"

(official video, song starts at 0:40)

Mumford And Sons - "Awake My Soul"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DHWsKTSdS74 (lyrics)

Arcade Fire is the greatest modern band. They are indie rock/baroque pop/art rock. Their song "Wake Up" from the album "Funeral" (2004) is probably the best song of the past decade. Their album "The Suburbs" (2010) has been consistently rated the Best Album of 2010.

If you haven't discovered Arcade Fire, then brace yourself for hyper-saturated awesomeness:

"Wake Up" - Arcade Fire - greatest song of the decade

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DEKC5pyOKFU (official)

(Glastonbury)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GGdyG_83nX4 (Unstaged, Madison Square Garden, NY 8/5/10)

(w/ David Bowie, 480px)

(w/ David Bowie)

(Reading Festival, Berkshire, UK 8/28/10)

(w/ lyrics)

Arcade Fire - "Neon Bible"

(live in an elevator, featuring musical magazines, lovely video)

(interactive video)

Arcade Fire - "We Used to Wait"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CLjrQ3cwzJ4 (live Unstaged)

(interactive viral video)

Arcade Fire - "The Suburbs"

(official video, starts at 0:25)

Arcade Fire - "Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains)"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0L6ZFhZVOx0 (Live)

(lyrics in description)

Arcade Fire - "Rebellion (Lies)" (considered second best song of 2005 by NME)

(official video)

(promotional video)

(live on Letterman)

Arcade Fire - "My Body is a Cage"

Owen Pallett - "This is the Dream of Win and Regine" (this song by an ex-Arcade Fire member is about the lead vocalist and songwriter of Arcade Fire, Win Butler, and his wife, Régine Chassagne)

(another violin piece)

(official vid)

Owen Pallett / Final Fantasy - "Many Lives - 49 MP" [baroque pop]

(baroque pop goodiness!)

(so good live, he's using foot pedals to record/play)

Bonus:

If you like folk, you'll love these songs:

Iron and Wine - "Flightless Bird, American Mouth" [minimalistic, acoustic, emotional, folk rock]

(live)

Noah and the Whale - 'L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N.' [indie folk] From the new album 'Last Night On Earth' (2011)

"On my last night on Earth, I won't look to the sky; just breathe in the air and blink in the light.

On my last night on Earth, I'll pay a high price, to have no regrets and be done with my life"

(Official Video)

The Decemberists - "Here I Dreamt I Was An Architect" [british indie folk]

There are so many other bands with a folk flavor, but I'm restraining myself. That should be enough music to discover/enjoy for now. ?;^)

Lady Gaga - Born This Way

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z4a8QtvOkBQ

Don't be a drag, just be a queen

Whether you're broke or evergreen

You're black, white, beige, chola descent

You're lebanese, you're orient

Whether life's disabilities

Left you outcast, bullied, or teased

Rejoice and love yourself today

'Cause baby you were born this way

No matter gay, straight, or bi,

Lesbian, transgendered life

I'm on the right track baby

I was born to survive

No matter black, white or beige

Chola or orient made

I'm on the right track baby

I was born to be brave

Sorry I didn't reply to you sooner! I've had some internet problems, but I'm good. How are you?

I've downloaded the new song, but I haven't really had a chance to listen to it yet. I know I should get on that... haha. The Strokes were definitely one of those first bands that got me into music. Like.. besides top 40. Before that I didn't think I liked any current music at all.

Adele's new album is amazing. Here are my favorites:

1.) someone like you: my favorite, bound to make you cry if you've been in a bad relationship.

2.) rolling in the deep: nice style of music you dont hear often

3.) turning tables.
