New music we should all hear

Recommended Posts

Heh, lennonist, you're welcome! Strange, funny connections! Agnes is great and so is Catself. I like her voice and the songs and how she does everything herself. Big music and big musical machineries have their place in my heart but mostly I love this kind of "handmade" music - you have your voice and your instrument and your creativity and maybe some friends and then you just do things. I can't explain this well... But yeah. I like Catself's songs and I'll definitely go see her live if I get the chance. I find this song:

quite Regina-esque in a way. That's definitely a good sign.

Weird things are going on when non-Finnish people start discovering and informing me about great Finnish music I've never even heard of... Big Grin (Well, she seems to be from Poland originally, but still.)

Crazy coincidences all over the place.

hmm, 'Agnieszka' is the Polish variant of the Greek 'Agnes' meaning "pure, holy". Yet, she has her hometown listed as Espoo, Finland on fb and her SellABand page. She studied at Joensuu, Finland, got her Master's in English at Lublin, Poland, and was a wilderness guide at Eerikkilä, Finland. I would guess she's probably both Polish and Finnish?

Yeah, it's crazy how many different instruments she can command.

This is cute: her "true love"

"It doesn't look like the world's ending, it doesn't look like it's ending today" -

She's such a nice person, I wish her the best.

Continuing my shameless plugs for Katy Gunn. I saw her last Tuesday (same night as Regina and Jack) and got some good footage. Check 'em out.

Talk To Me

Beautiful Things <--hilarious. she drops her violin's shoulder rest mid song.

PS- her new album Beautiful Things just came out in this January. You can buy it from cdbaby or on itunes.

YAY. I WATCHED THE STROKES! i love them. so much.

it's really awesome to see how far the strokes have come and how far regina has come!!!!! AWW!! they are both so successful and beautiful! and i am mostly speaking about julian (and regina). they seem like they are at good places in their respective careers. i seriously doubt they even speak to each other. i know regina keeps in touch with some strokes members.. probably not julian though

She probably keeps in contact with Julian too. I mean, she got an advanced listen to their album. Though obviously has more of a connection with Nikolai because of him being Russian and having played guitar on some songs.

The Strokes were amazing. Their set was a bit short. Started late, finished early. Ended a bit too abruptly, I think. I liked how Julian made side comments like "I won't just be a puppet on a string, or maybe I will" and "Nature, nice!" at the sunset. I was hoping they'd play Modern Age. They played most of their big hits:

Is This It

Under Cover of Darkness

Hard To Explain

Taken for a Fool

You Only Live Once

You’re So Right

What Ever Happened?

New York City Cops

Life Is Simple in the Moonlight

Last Nite

Under Control

Take It Or Leave It

In case anybody missed them, couldn't watch because their outside America, or wants to watch anyway:

Arcade Fire -

The Strokes -

Explosions in the Sky -

Florence and the Machine -

or F+tM playlist on yt:

Cold War Kids -

Ratatat -

Mumford & Sons -

Alison Krauss & Union Station -

The performances at Coachella were much more epic. Better selection lineup and better sound quality. Arcade Fire, Angus and Julia Stone, YACHT, Warpaint, Broken Social Scene, Swell Session, Mumford and Sons, The Strokes, etc. Warning: Barrage of links ahead...

Youtube, or vevo rather, recommended me "Go Outside" by The Cults. The girl in the advertisement looked nice so I said, what the hell. And wow, the song rules.

Have a listen:

The official music video stars James Franco's brother and Emma Roberts. Hot.

and get this, it has a 9 rating from pitchfork. Huh.
